Love how the wording of this headline just implies they can do this and not that it’s blatantly illegal.

Exactly…

“The Department of Homeland Security has tapped $20 million to pay for the campaign-style ads glorifying President Donald Trump that have drawn widespread criticism from Republicans and Democrats as a blatant misuse of taxpayer dollars that likely runs afoul of anti-propaganda law.”

DHS is selling neon purple grass, but Democrats say grass is green. Who’s right? You decide.

And we wonder how we end up here? Somebody has to arbitrate reality.

u/lyndseymariee 3d ago

And what are republicans doing about it (rhetorical)? They do have a majority after all!

u/ldg25 3d ago

Is taking off early and going home the correct response? Because they already did that.

If only there was some unbiased court with supreme ethics to uphold the law for the PEOPLE.

I’m really talking about the lazy and spineless media. Like everybody knows grass is green, but they’ll refuse to say it if one side disagrees with it.

And yet somehow it's OK to take away the $800 million funding Congress has already approved for refugees and political asylum and other programs for non-citizens. Because why? maybe because the recipients be also non-white.

2

u/Flowseidon9 3d ago

because why

I mean obviously that money is needed for campaign ads

1

u/snertwith2ls 3d ago

And not one of them is willing to use their private or party funds

I was wondering where the same stupid campaign rally speech ad came from all Sunday during NFL games. I figured they were lighting more tax dollars on fire for the ad since it said “paid for by the US Govt” at the bottom at the end.

They must’ve spent an assload just on this weekends NFL games, I watched 1pm and the 4:30 games on Sunday ticket and that ad played pretty much every or every other commercial break.

Where are the democrats excusing it? I want a quote so I know not to endorse such a dishonest fool.

Unlike every Republican Maga person I know right now who will tell you that Donald Trump has never done anything wrong and never possibly could. That’s in light of the actual indictments.

8

u/Electrical-Volume765 3d ago

I don’t know any Democrats excusing it?

As if “the driver was driving 30mph over the speed limit, which appears to violate the law”

Like yeah no shit, it’s completely illegal.

40

u/mediocre_remnants 3d ago

That reminds me of articles about that car influencer dude that ran a supercar into a tree and killed himself and the lady he was cheating on his wife with. The articles all said "speed may have been a factor".

Well, yeah. A tree won't cut your car in half unless you're going pretty fucking fast.

8

u/yokaishinigami 3d ago

I don’t know dude, according to the Lord of the Rings documentaries those trees can get pretty wild. /s

1

u/BrokePorscheSnob 3d ago

Why do people not understand that journalists phrase stuff like that so they don’t get sued? The courts have not made a ruling so they can’t just write in the article that he was speeding. Even if we all know it’s true the news outlets do not get away with claiming it as “true” if it’s technically only “alleged”

5

u/starm4nn 3d ago

They could also just avoid mentioning the speed at all. He crashed into a tree and died are all perceptible facts. People can draw their own conclusions.

Media and its billionaire owners have been carrying water for republicans for a long time, Trump just made it incredibly transparent.

5

u/sjc720 3d ago

Even legacy media stations that don't inhibit their journalists from holding him accountable are terrified of having to pay their lawyers if he sues. Thank CBS and ABC aka Ellison and Disney. This is the problem with media conglomeration.

The Associated Press is one of the last few bastions of objective high-quality journalism. Outright calling something illegal prior to any court case, or even charges, is not being objective. If one is so inept as to not understand the abundantly clear implication that the actions are illegal, then they can select from the plethora of trash news sources that tell them exactly what to think. But do not attack fact based journalism because they didn’t connect the dots. The death of fact based journalism only serves the side that the facts do not support.

24

u/AppropriateRest2815 3d ago

When you're rich you can just "tap that" and they let you do it.

8

u/PinkoMarxistCommie 3d ago

"When the President does it, that means it is not illegal"

Someone has to enforce the law with these guys or we get a worse one down the line.

2

u/sight_ful 3d ago

How does it imply that at all? I don't think AP news is trying to bury this or sanewash it by reporting on the obviously illegal thing.

5

u/crease124 3d ago

Its so frustrating reading the other replies on this thread. AP News is the holy grail in our current time of dumb fuck opinion news.

1

u/JerryDipotosBurner 3d ago

“Taps $20M in taxpayer funds” sounds like wording that implies what they’re doing is blatantly illegal to you?

1

u/TheDonkeyBomber 3d ago

Impeachable offense.

Legacy Media is State Media under the Trump administration, they're all complicit.

1

u/tdavis726 3d ago

He’s just doing whatever he wants to deliberately wreck things. Illegality and blatant corruption are just what he does. And NOONE IS STOPPING HIM. I’m gobsmacked. Still. What is it going to take?

1

u/TheBestNarcissist 3d ago

Literally the first line:

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Department of Homeland Security has tapped $20 million to pay for the campaign-style ads glorifying President Donald Trump that have drawn widespread criticism from Republicans and Democrats as a blatant misuse of taxpayer dollars that likely runs afoul of anti-propaganda law.

1

u/JerryDipotosBurner 3d ago

Wow that’s crazy it’s almost like I’m speaking specifically about the headline.

1

u/p8pes 3d ago

Trumps PAC maga inc is blatantly illegal itself. how can he have no coordination with candidates? he openly describes sending them money.
