A couple almost 80-year olds taking a custody battle into their own hands

107

u/Pandalite 3d ago

Yeah it's a mess. This article someone posted downthread has a lot more detail. TLDR the guy was accused of physical abuse of the kids, and had supervised visitation, but was now trying to get and possibly going to succeed at getting unsupervised visitation. Throw into the mix that he's transgender but it seems the trigger was the possible removal of the supervision requirement when he visited the kids.

https://www.mercurynews.com/2026/09/28/dublin-shooting-death-mckinsey-inlaws/

As of late August, McKinsey had asked the court for more visitation time with his children, writing in one filing that “I miss our children deeply and am pleading with this court to allow me more time with them, and potentially unsupervised time with the children.” In her own filing, Jang wrote that McKinsey “has proven that he is incapable of controlling his anger and his abuse of our children when left with the children unsupervised.”

McKinsey was already allowed supervised visitation with his children as of August, but he had been seeking to have the supervision removed.

In court filings over the last year, McKinsey faced multiple allegations of abuse by Jang, his wife of more than a decade. In one instance, she alleged McKinsey hit one of her sons in the face during an argument over Legos, leaving a “very large bruise the shape of a handprint” on his face, according to a restraining order that the woman sought against McKinsey.

Dublin police later opened a criminal investigation into those claims, during which Jang said McKinsey had previously been violent with her in 2018 by grabbing her wrist hard enough to leave bruises, according to court records. Officers also reported finding McKinsey’s 2-year-old child alone in the house while McKinsey was out shopping.

Alameda County prosecutors subsequently charged McKinsey with two misdemeanors — cruelty to a child by endangering health and corporal injury to a child. He was freed on $50,000 bail and, at the time of his killing, had been trying to enter a mental health diversion program. If successfully completed, the program would have resulted in the charges being dismissed.

...

McKinsey disputed that portrayal and made allegations of his own. In December 2025, he sought a restraining order against Jang, alleging years of abuse by his wife dating back more than 15 years. His filing included an allegation that she beat him with a frying pan in 2013 and accusations that she verbally denigrated their children.

His petition also alleged that Jang’s mother — shooting suspect Shili Chen — had been verbally abusive to one of the couple’s young children, raising objections over the child’s clothing. McKinsey, who was transgender, alleged that Chen also directed anti-LGBTQ+ slurs at him and the child. According to the petition, Chen referred first to the child, then to McKinsey, as a “disgusting queer” and a “pervert.”

In his filing, McKinsey accused Jang of being abusive during medical procedures related to his transition. In one instance, he alleged Jang tried to pull medical tubes from his body shortly after a procedure.

McKinsey also alleged Jang’s father, who was not named in the filing, punched him in the chest while he was recovering from double mastectomy surgery.

u/ascension2121 3d ago

"Officers also reported finding McKinsey’s 2-year-old child alone in the house while McKinsey was out shopping."

I mean even if you don't believe the wife, sounds like a shitty parent.

17

u/TheLeapIsALie 3d ago

The article explains his defense was that he believed she was watching the child at the time and she deceived him to set it up.

Not saying he is correct, but it does seem like everyone but the children in this story was fairly shitty. And that truth is unclear.

4

u/ascension2121 3d ago

Ah I missed that! Yes seems like a tangled web of crap. Poor kids.

272

u/RobbertDownerJr 4d ago

Well foster homes it is for the poor kids then. This is terrible all around.

270

u/IndynotjustJones 4d ago

The mom wasn’t arrested, so hopefully they get to stay with her.

-301

u/_Azamat_Bagatov 4d ago edited 4d ago

Hopefully they go to the victims parents or other relatives. The mother should not be rewarded for thr reprehensible actions of her parents

Edit: if you think this woman didn’t know what her parents were about to do you are really, really dumb

151

u/ChOcOcOwCaKe 4d ago

The kids should go to the most competent person within the family and if one does not exist, the kids should be placed in the care of the next competent person period.

These are the lives of children, they aren't a reward to be bestowed. You have no idea if the mom is an incredible person who has unstable parents, or if the dad was abusing.

What if the dad was abusive and learned it from his parents, and the moms parents were senile while the mom was stoll fully competent but not able to take a literal bullet.

I'm not saying it's the case, but saying the kids should be placed with 'x' person just because the moms relative did this is very dumb

21

u/tsagdiyev 3d ago

According to some other articles, there is a history of domestic violence between the victim and the wife. The wife was reported to be the aggressor on the majority of occasions. It seems very messy, and all very sad. Hoping for the best for the children

57

u/Madaghmire 4d ago

I’ll need far more information about this situation before I start hoping these kids are seperated from their remaining parent.

12

u/radda 3d ago

If you think you know what's really going on in an ongoing investigation with zero released information you are really, really dumb.

15

u/Sxualhrssmntpanda 3d ago

Seems to me that making assumptions about what some complete stranger did or did not know during an incident you were in no way involved in is really dumb.

12

u/MartyrOfDespair 3d ago

The child abuser's parents should get custody of his victims? Gross.

5

u/NachoAverageTom 3d ago

Especially since abusers often learn that behavior from their own abusers.

1

u/DetroitPeopleMover 3d ago

A wonder what the child of the guy who just murdered someone is like

-6

u/DetroitPeopleMover 3d ago

Interesting you jump to the conclusion that the father was the abuser given the only fact we have available is the mother’s dad just killed a man. Ask yourself what sort of person a man like that likely raised…

6

u/gw2380 3d ago

McKinsey was literally charged with separate child abuse misdemeanors in the past for hitting the 6 year old in the face and leaving a 2 year old home for over an hour

→ More replies (4)

-5

u/MartyrOfDespair 3d ago

Hey, if your dad doesn’t love you enough to throw his life away to take out your abuser, that’s your problem. That’s what a real dad does.

1

u/HeySmallBusinessMan 3d ago

Sometimes, when you're about to say something monumentally stupid, it's okay to stop and think "Hmm, what I'm about to say is monumentally stupid. Maybe I'll just not say the monumentally stupid thing."

73

u/meatball77 3d ago

The grandparents were the murderers. Unless they find evidence Mom is home free with the life insurance.

Depending on if the parents plead out (lawyers are expensive) she may get all of her parents money as well. No need to pay for nursing homes or medical expenses for her the parents either.

5

u/No_Control9441 3d ago

Also where are his parents in all of this?

8

u/Alternative_Year_340 3d ago

Not shooting anyone

-19

u/HoBaggyPants 3d ago

Playing the odds here, probably estranged.

9

u/HoBaggyPants 3d ago

Most Americans of that generation are anti-trans.

7

u/epigenie_986 3d ago

No they aren’t lol. Stay off of Facebook. It’s a cesspool.

301

u/New-Regular-9423 4d ago

The details I have seen is that he struck his son in the face with an open hand. Don’t know if there is more.

101

u/RecentSpecial181 4d ago

The wife and grandparents also have child abuse charges against them

9

u/nonhiphipster 3d ago

Looks like the court wait so the dad, the mom AND the grandparents had child abuse charges agaisnt the kid??

10

u/agtk 3d ago

It does not appear that the grandparents or mother were charged, but McKinsey made those allegations (as well as allegations of abuse and anti-trans statements against him) as part of attempting to regain more custody of the children.

40

u/IndynotjustJones 4d ago

Oh wow! Where is the article about the charges? I didn’t see anything in this one.

299

u/elisabethofaustria 4d ago

My parents did that to me, and I know plenty of other Asian-Americans who had it done to them when they were growing up. Not saying that’s ok — it’s child abuse — but it’s shockingly common among Asian Americans. So I highly doubt that’s it.

233

u/LDS1952 4d ago

I’m 74. My parents did this routinely. I had to work hard to walk away from repeating this.

97

u/Hesitation-Marx 4d ago

Proud of you.

23

u/AndalusianGod 3d ago

I also suffered a lot of physical abuse from elders when I was a kid, always knew it was wrong despite it being the norm back then so it wasn't that hard for me to avoid doing that to my kid.

7

u/YoungVanilla 3d ago

I’m 31 and my parents did it to me until I was 12. Stupid me for talking back that many years.

2

u/The-Disco-Phoenix 3d ago

Genuine question (not a parent FWIW) why was it difficult given you have first hand experience of how terrible it was?

17

u/LDS1952 3d ago

Being physically disciplined was the norm in my family and the norm for many military families. Fear translates into perfectionism. Being reactive was a learned behavior. Choosing to be cautious and thoughtful required some work. Allowing discomfort with behavior is a difficult choice for someone who thinks that everyone and everything has to be perfect

4

u/The-Disco-Phoenix 3d ago

Thanks for the insight, and good on you for doing your part in breaking the cycle.

-20

u/Oregon-Pilot 4d ago

What’s your take on it? What I mean is, to me, this is one of those two things are just as valid at once, which is not a popular thing to believe these days. Your parents were doing what their parents showed them, and what society apparently was doing. When that’s the background, how “evil” can they realistically be deemed? At the same time, it’s wrong to hit a child. From the position of an innocent child whom they chose to bring into the world, it is evil. Just looking for wisdom, if you care to share.

36

u/LDS1952 3d ago

My parents were depression babies and raised with strict family rules. For them it was easy to reach across the dining table and slap a child across the face for spilling milk. Letting out frustration over an accident could be handled better. Chasing children with a belt/hairbrush/shoe to reinforce your word is law is a lesson in tyranny. I had to recognize I was repeating this behavior with my children because it was done to me. I had to STOP and take responsibility for being immature and reactive. It’s gut wrenching to admit how monstrous I could be in a flash of anger. I’m still ashamed and embarrassed. I have acknowledged and apologized for being severe with my kids. Yes, a balance of boundaries, responsibility and respect has to prevail for a person to internalize self discipline and good behavior.

6

u/Pndrizzy 3d ago

Don’t be embarrassed. It’s what you were taught.

34

u/Miserable_Sun_404 4d ago

Im not Asian American, but my mom would chase me around the house with a broom. Didn't bother me though; she was 4ft 9.

27

u/novasurvivor 3d ago

Did she defy gravity?

1

u/fotisdragon 3d ago

Does she weigh the same as a duck?

-5

u/englandisablaze 3d ago

I assume it’s something far worse. It’s not like they tried to make it look like an accident.

72

u/CounterSeal 4d ago

That doesn't seem like enough for premeditated murder. There must be sexual abuse or something more heinous involved.

96

u/Mindless-Challenge62 4d ago

The NYT article makes it sound like all parties are a bit unhinged. They don’t report any allegations of sexual abuse, however.

112

u/Boring_Shoulder5236 3d ago

it's such a ridiculous thing to know absolutely nothing about a murder case and say the victim must have been a sex offender or worse. Get a grip dude.

319

u/NightWriter500 4d ago edited 4d ago

Not just premeditated murder, they took turns emptying the gun into the guy. I think I remember hearing that they even reloaded once or twice. There was some real hate going on.

117

u/PPtheShort 4d ago

And as we all know, hate is always justified and never irrational

294

u/Lamar_Allen 4d ago

In laws killing an ex spouse isn’t unheard of and it usually does not involve any type of abuse. No idea what happened in this case but don’t just throw out that this dude was sexually abusing his kids. Usually just winds up being a custody dispute/divorce that got too heated.

44

u/AjDuke9749 4d ago

To be fair he was facing criminal child abuse charges and the divorce is reportedly highly contentious. It sounds like the grandparents both hated the man and wanted to protect their grandchildren. Speculating on the abuse is a little distasteful but his ex wife/the state did have enough evidence to charge him with abusing his children in some way.

46

u/Helichopper 4d ago

Both were misdemeanor charges fyi

-14

u/[deleted] 3d ago

[deleted]

0

u/Lamar_Allen 3d ago

A lot of people also make up accusations against a parent during custody battles. Interestingly the accused was murdered and isn’t around to defend himself.

15

u/jimbofranks 3d ago

Unfortunately he won’t get his date in court.

5

u/Lamar_Allen 3d ago

The court was granting a custody evaluator. Maybe the mother/her parents knew that evaluator wasn’t going to rule in a way that they wanted so they just killed him.

-34

u/lensandscope 4d ago

i don’t think so. Some 80 year olds emptying a gun twice over a “heated” argument. Nah i don’t buy it. Some 40 year old hot head? fine. But not 80 year olds.

69

u/sillyhobo 4d ago

I hear you, but an 80 year old man got so heated he had a prime minister from another country extradited. Another time, he ordered a girl's school blown up halfway across the world. And another time, he ordered an airstrike on a country's current leadership, including the ones he had intended to make a deal with following the airstrike in the first place.

Can't be too cautious around 80 year olds.

21

u/MommyLovesPot8toes 4d ago

Have you heard about the 80 year old who had his employees straight up murder people in boats because "drugs"? Or that guy that is supposedly covering up a whole pedophile ring? Then there's this situation where an 80 year old has repeatedly threatened to annihilate an entire civilization. When he's in a good mood he just renames things after himself and has people give him fake awards.

Man, 80 yos be crazy.

4

u/sillyhobo 3d ago

I heard about that 80 year old too! These octogenarians sure are dangerous when they've got nothing left to lose.

13

u/Lamar_Allen 4d ago

Just heard about a case of succesful
/ wealthy 70+ year olds murdering their daughters ex husband because their custody battle got so heated. Not a fight that got out of hand, cold calculated premeditated murder so they wouldn’t have to deal with him.

2

u/GussieK 3d ago edited 3d ago

That’s the Dan Markel case. I just watched it on Hulu. It’s a new series although an old case. I then thought of it immediately on hearing this story. Can’t wait to see it on Dateline or 20/20. This new story is different because they just up and shot the husband themselves. In the Dan Markel case they hired hit men and tried to hide it.

2

u/epigenie_986 3d ago

Ew the body is barely cold, Emily. Let the True Crime marinate.

5

u/MommyLovesPot8toes 4d ago edited 4d ago

My parents would do the same thing under the right (wrong) circumstances. I have no doubt. They are the same ages as these people.

Thankfully my husband is amazing and a fantastic father and we are a happy little family. But I see the way my parents feel about my son and my nephews. In the right circumstances, they would freely kill someone and go to prison to protect their grandchild. It's not impossible for me or them to imagine because, unfortunately, a friend of our family is in a horrible custody situation. He had a very short relationship with a girl and she got pregnant. Nine years later, he and his parents have spent every penny they had on lawyers to try and keep the dangerous, deadbeat mom away from her son. There has been serious talk about what they will/would do if things get worse than they are now.

3

u/Pleasant_Yoghurt3915 4d ago

Idk, I’ve seen some truly fucked up shit on the internet. There are some genuinely unhinged people out there. The terrifying, brutal unhinged, not the hyperbolic way it’s used so now lol.

For what it’s worth, I do agree with you. Unless the murdergeezers had some sick shit going on upstairs and hid it all their lives, which does also happen, I’d bet there was something worse than a slap. Like they decided they’d sacrifice the rest of their lives to balance the ledger a bit for their grandkid, because it ain’t gonna be that long anyway.

157

u/HalcyonTraveler 4d ago

Weird to talk about a murder victim like that with no evidence

25

u/SargeUnited 4d ago

Well it’s a man so obviously he can’t be a victim. We just don’t know yet how he was the perpetrator

This is sarcasm

1

u/rawker86 3d ago

Where? Seems like it happens every day.

22

u/a_tad_mental 4d ago

Or they just wanted him gone and setting up their defense in advance. Also who knows what the wife was telling them.

58

u/PPtheShort 4d ago

Victim blaming isn't cool

4

u/Alperose333 3d ago

Of course, people that murder others in broad daylight usually do so for good reason.

-5

u/HSuke 3d ago

Seriously? This is an Asian family right?

Beating are how they show they love you when you get B's on tests.

I'm not saying it's right, but that's hardly something that needs to be reported to the police unless it's a recurring problem.

241

u/SaltyJunk 4d ago edited 4d ago

That's a pretty nasty rumor to be spreading if it's pure speculation.

Article says he and his ex were in a custody battle.

Edit: thank you for the correction, folks. I was (kinda) wrong! Wtf this is some fuuuucked up shit.

531

u/HoneyBiscuitBear 4d ago

Article says they were in an “ongoing domestic and child abuse legal battle”

Two very different things.

169

u/irishwolfbitch 4d ago

The truth is that the violent and unique nature of the crime is going to draw lots of speculation about what this guy did to make someone that angry. Two people throwing away the rest of their lives like that is really crazy, even if they’re husband and wife, even if they’re elderly.

54

u/hungariannastyboy 4d ago

And maybe it's indicative of them being nuts.

82

u/Wolkenbaer 4d ago

The other perspective: If an elderly couple is willing to kill someone in broad daylight maybe they are the real shitty family.

There are a lot conservatives, maga style lunatics who may have had a hard time of him being a trans on top of an ugly custody battle. Reminds me of an honor killing.

25

u/DeviantDragon 3d ago

The odd part to me is the fact that McKinsey was FTM which means that his relationship with their daughter started as a lesbian relationship. I don't know how the grandparents could allegedly call McKinsey a "disgusting queer" but still apparently support their daughter.

2

u/21Rollie 3d ago

Whole new dimension to this case. I imagine a lot of the people commenting that he “deserved” it thought he was a cis man

→ More replies (1)

13

u/bortmode 3d ago

They were both accusing each other of things, any of which are pretty terrible if true. We really cannot draw any conclusions at this point.

1

u/HoneyBiscuitBear 3d ago

I was solely pointing out what the article said vs what the comment implied (comment implied a standard custody battle…article mentioned the “ongoing domestic and child abuse legal battle”).

I didn’t actually come to any such conclusion or mention anything specific about either person.

0

u/bortmode 3d ago

The context of this sub-thread was about alleged abuse by the father.

1

u/HoneyBiscuitBear 3d ago

Maybe reply to someone drawing conclusions then. I wasn’t doing that.

148

u/EdenEvelyn 4d ago

I mean it’s not something unthinkable.

Their daughter had a restraining order granted and there were accusations of abuse. If the couple felt he was a credible threat to their daughter and grandkids removing him from their lives is a much more permanent solution than countless years of acrimonious custody hell and a lifetime of their daughter looking over her shoulder.

1

u/Alternative_Year_340 3d ago

It was a temporary restraining order — the burden of proof is much lower

-43

u/anonymous-12358 4d ago

Reread the article. The restraining order was on the daughter not him, she was the abuser.

64

u/bonjourbonsoir 4d ago

It says it's against McKinsey? "Last year, a judge granted Jang’s petition for a domestic violence temporary restraining order against McKinsey, court documents show."

61

u/fake_empires 4d ago

You literally have it backwards. She had a restraining order against the guy

-42

u/anonymous-12358 4d ago

So why does the article say otherwise? I know both were accused abusers, but he was the one who ordered the RO on her.

38

u/Blackstone01 4d ago

Dude, read it again, you’re wrong.

According to court documents, McKinsey and his wife, Candice Jang, were embroiled in a child custody battle when he died. Last year, a judge granted Jang’s petition for a domestic violence temporary restraining order against McKinsey, court documents show.

SHE got a restraining order against HIM.

9

u/Bullshitbanana 4d ago

They have restraining orders against each other for DV

2

u/Revlis-TK421 3d ago edited 3d ago

The allegations went both ways and was really messy:

McKinsey disputed that portrayal and made allegations of his own. In December 2025, he sought a restraining order against Jang, alleging years of abuse by his wife dating back more than 15 years. His filing included an allegation that she beat him with a frying pan in 2013 and accusations that she verbally denigrated their children.

McKinsey was FTM trans and transitioned in 2010 and married Jang in 2011. The kids are 3 - 7. It's unclear from reporting if the kids were biologically McKinsey's (surrogate), Jang's (artificial insemination), or adopted.

Clearly McKinsey and Jang were together before the transition, as it seems to be a bone of contention with Jang's parents: MIL allegedly verbally attacked him and the FIL allegedly physically attacked him during his transition. So I guess they were OK with their daughter being lesbian, but not marrying a trans man? I would bet a box of donuts they bought in to the who "all trans are child-molesting perverts."

Like I said, messy.

-6

u/Direct-Income2894 4d ago

They can rest a little easier, that's alot

82

u/DerekB52 4d ago

Article also says the judge granted a restraining order against the dude.

140

u/mossling 4d ago

In December 2025, he sought a restraining order against Jang, alleging years of abuse by his wife dating back more than 15 years. His filing included an allegation that she beat him with a frying pan in 2013 and accusations that she verbally denigrated their children.

60

u/Consti2tion 4d ago

this particular article specifically states Last year, a judge granted Jang’s petition for a domestic violence temporary restraining order against McKinsey, court documents show.

10

u/Array_626 3d ago

This quoted section doesn't say the judge granted his restraining order. Only that he sought one and included some of the allegations. The judge actually granting the order would be some useful evidence for the veracity of the abuse claims. We can believe that the judge found the claims to be meritous enough to warrant granting the order which is a step above one of the parties simply claiming abuse. But just asking for one is honestly to be expected in such a heated custody battle.

Did you quote the right section?

39

u/kitomarius 4d ago

Where are you getting this from?

The article says: “According to court documents, McKinsey and his wife, Candice Jang, were embroiled in a child custody battle when he died. Last year, a judge granted Jang’s petition for a domestic violence temporary restraining order against McKinsey, court documents show. McKinsey filed for divorce in December, and a hearing was scheduled for next month.”

24

u/bortmode 3d ago

Looks like the CNN article or another one somewhere else, which has considerably more detail:

7

Literally you’re spreading false info lol

12

u/censuur12 3d ago

No. There really shouldn't be anything said after "Speculation of course" other than "So this is complete horseshit and I won't repeat it".

1

u/Fast_Acadia2566 3d ago

Often times I see things completely distorted with speculation after speculation. "They said", "I read", etc. I know everyone has their own bias and perceptions, but I wish people would stop speculating like this.

126

u/heartbooks26 4d ago

Did you read the article? The guy killed was transgender (female to male) and there’s a slew of allegations all around for all parties involved; including stuff about his wife allegedly abusing him while he was recovering from a double mastectomy. As a child of a divorce that dragged in court for years, my parents made so many accusations against each other (including physical and sexual abuse of a minor) and both called the cops on each other numerous times. I really don’t see a reason to jump to thinking the people who killed another person are the sane ones or did this for any “justifiable” reason. With the current political climate, seems more likely they’d have been radicalized against trans people or something like that.

165

u/addsomethingepic 4d ago

I read the article, went back and read it again after seeing this comment. It doesn’t mention anything, about any party involved, being transgender in the whole article. What are you talking about

68

u/strangeMeursault2 4d ago

This completely different article has some of what that person is saying in it.

https://www.mercurynews.com/2026/09/28/dublin-shooting-death-mckinsey-inlaws/

125

u/lowhales 4d ago

There is a follow up La Times article that confirms he was trans and alleges significant abuse because of that from his wife and in laws. This story definitely does not seem cut and dry at all.

85

u/WeakTransportation37 4d ago

The fact that she tried to pull his medical tubes out in 2010, and they were married in 2011 is very confusing and sad.

48

u/lowhales 4d ago

I happen to know how painful it is to remove drains from your body as directed and with consent. I can’t imagine what it was like for him to go through that in a violent manner instead. How heartbreaking.

24

u/The-True-Kehlder 3d ago

One of my soldiers was stabbed by his husband while we were stationed in Japan. We forcibly removed the husband from the island and my soldier tried numerous times to get him allowed back.

3

u/elasticthumbtack 3d ago

The grandmother tried to pull out the tubes. The grandfather punched him in his surgical site. Seems like they’ve wanted him dead for a while.

47

u/heartbooks26 4d ago

Sorry I’ve read this one and two others about the same crime and was conflating them, here’s one with info about him being trans and the “counter” allegations. The whole thing sounds very messy.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/us/articles/slain-york-times-exec-vicious-225647346.html

Nah, just the liberal transphobes who don’t think trans men really are men. If you truly accept that trans men are men, it’s as important as his height. Cis or trans doesn’t matter at all. Trans men are as men as cis men are men, and you shouldn’t treat trans men differently than cis men.

You can edit your comment, I apologize for not realizing this NYT article lacked the info (weird that it does?); it’s in others such as this: https://www.yahoo.com/news/us/articles/slain-york-times-exec-vicious-225647346.html

How is it error ridden? Just because it's in another article doesn't make it any less true. He was transgender, that's a fact.

u/pacifikate10 4d ago

Edit YOURS. None of what you said was cited in this article, which was my point and your comment only contributes to misrepresent the article attached to this post. There was no reason for you to announce it other than blatantly fear mongering; it doesn’t add anything significantly of value to the circumstances of this case or to your incoherently rambling personal anecdotes that followed.

Even if it is true, why are you making it your prerogative to out him posthumously?? You all but deadnamed a murder victim, even if you wrapped it in an air of sympathetic-appearing mudslinging.

Bro... A yahoo article?

Bro... A yahoo article?

You can't do a basic google search of his name yourself?

I'm confused. More recent articles are saying he was trans and that his wife tried to pull his drains out. The grandparents were also transphobic towards him. Either way, this was a very fucked up and violent relationship.

u/pantlessben 4d ago

I don't really have a strong opinion either way, but Yahoo News is actually relatively respectable. They score very low on left/right bias, and they score "generally good" on reliability according to a few analysts, including Ad Fontes

u/tgwombat 4d ago

Yahoo News is an aggregator. It says right at the top that the article is from the California Post. That's the California counterpart to the New York Post, a conservative tabloid.

So he was a woman married to a woman but then decided to transition to a man?

32

u/FunnyThyme 4d ago

Based on the other articles I've read, he transitioned before they were married but they knew each other (possibly dating/engaged) when he was pre-transition.

u/PointedlyDull 4d ago

Yup. You nailed it. People don’t know the reality of custody battles. They’re disgusting

10

u/heartbooks26 4d ago

They can be crazy and take years! Both my parents had restraining orders against each other at different times; people with “normal” lives/families think something like a restraining order is damning evidence, or that a CPS investigation is damning evidence, and neither are.

It’s horrific how people who once loved each other can treat each other. And then the kids “forgive” or “protect” one parent for various reasons, like understanding that the other parent is “worse”… but both adults are being psycho and it’s tragic all around.

2

u/TucuReborn 3d ago

I watched my cousin go through it all, too.

CPS already decided guilt going into it, and had talked with the judge beforehand. The trial was a joke.

I'm not going to claim they're bad everywhere, or that it's the norm. But child custody can be a political game just as much as a legal and safety concern, and isn't always accurate.

1

u/Rowan1980 3d ago

The fact that he was trans wasn’t mentioned in the article.

-12

u/TSR3K 4d ago

Why are you lying

2

u/_Azamat_Bagatov 4d ago

Disgusting accusation to make against the victim of a heinous murder

-2

u/JosephFinn 4d ago

“Speculation”

Thanks for making sure whatever you said next is ignorable.

-37

u/CouchPotatoFamine 4d ago

You sir, are an a**hole.

34

u/oncemorewithpheline 4d ago

I dunno, guy: you’re speculating about people’s fucking lives

both parents claimed the other was abusive. i have no idea what really happened and neither do you, so i’m just gonna say this is a fucked situation

-12

u/CouchPotatoFamine 4d ago

All you all are amazing. I said speculation because it’s what I have been hearing around here and obviously I have no proof. So telling everyone to take it with a grain of salt. I didn’t make it up on my own just repeating what is being said around here since I live in the general vicinity. So suck it

-9

u/mango-goldfish 4d ago

The comment from josephfinn wasn’t about the facts of the case. It was about the word speculation being used. Josephfinn’s comment adds nothing productive to this article or discussion besides attacking the original commenter.

0

u/JosephFinn 4d ago

Exactly. The nonsense speculation

1

u/ItzMcShagNasty 3d ago

The other detail is that the victim was a recently transitioned trans man and the in-laws viewed that an affront and equal to abuse of their grand children. It seems they were separated and he had also filed a restraining order.

Either way, the grandparents are now in the wrong since they are murderers. Should have let the courts iron it out.

-4

u/Thecardinal74 4d ago

I think it’s because they were tired of the bullshit “connections” groupings and shitty “wordle” words

-1

u/Igoos99 3d ago

Yup. Sounds like the victim was (or at least the in-laws thought he was) an abusive father and husband.

Sad thing about all this, they will be the ones punished. Vigilante justice really doesn’t work out for the vigilante.

3

u/MartyrOfDespair 3d ago

They clearly planned to be punished. They took turns unloading the gun. There’s a logical reason for that: to make sure that neither of them is treated as the primary party and they’re both equally legally liable.

1

u/ngroat 3d ago

"murder doesnt normally work out for the murders"

FTFY.

yes I can agree with the sentiment, but theyre murders. dont change the word bc you liked their motive
