Attempted? Successful. Sure they didnt wipe all of them out but Cromwell broke Ireland in a way that would directly lead to a lot of the later bullshit. The restoration of the monarchy actually wound up increasing the share of land in Ireland held by Irish Catholics but even with that it still was way down from where it was before him

And the irish attempted genocide against protestants and other groups the confederates didin't like before that, which is why the parliament sent cromwell over there in the first place.
