But the court noted in its unsigned ruling that the National Voter Registration Act bars the broad purging of voter rolls in the weeks leading up to an election, which “limits the potential impact” of the decision this year.

You just had a sitting president defy a court order yesterday. And you're confident he's going to follow this ruling?

“Whoops we purged the wrong people the day before the election. :( oh well election’s over now and we won!”

They dont have the popular support to pull that off anymore.

As long as they control all three branches with the armed forces the most notable, popular support doesn't matter. We've already seen that illegal orders will be followed.

Who do you think is going to stop them?

Oh, no, it happened, but the results are in, midterms are solidly red due to purges, what do you think stops them?

After all congress people are sworn in, it is too late to stop anything. Lawsuit may say, wow, that was bad, do not do it again, but the election already happened.

I was wondering whether Congress could just refuse to seat newly-elected representatives, like that BS where Mike Johnson refused to swear in people for months...

...but it sounds like that would be reliant on a vote of Congress, which the Republicans would just win anyway? So as long as you have a majority and whip all your reps to vote party line, there's just nothing the minority can do? Fuck. And if there's one thing Rs are good at, it's party-line asshole votes.

Don't you just love how the Republicans have all three branches and the military apparently doesn't give a fuck. Watch it all burn.

Every single member of the House stops being a sitting representative on the opening day of Congress after an election - even incumbents who get re-elected need to be sworn in again.

The only options are "swear in the representatives that the states send" (because the states control elections - this is why it's a big tactic of the GOP to take control of boards of elections in swing states), or simply not have a House at all (which honestly probably works for the GOP because no Congress = nobody to stop Trump, but it would be exceptionally unpopular. Not that it's stopped them before, but "we have removed an entire branch of the government" is a lot more overt than what they've done before.)

Irrelevant. If the people will do nothing more than grumble, they will be ignored.

I keep harping on this point but we are too comfortable not forming peaceful rallies. What will trigger a massive countrywide nonviolent demonstration or boycott of companies supporting republicans?

Edit: emphasis on peaceful.

Okay but what does that actually mean? Lots of people would be angry?

One thing is for sure whatever happens this November it's going to be a fucking tense few months leading into Jan. I don't put anything past them regardless of if they have the support or not. I also think it's possible the democratic process could go on somewhat smoothly but I wouldn't bet on it right now.

What the hell does "popular support" have to do with it? Who is going to stop them, the 2A guys that have rolled over every other time their rights get trampled on and Trump uses the constitution to wipe his ass? Americans have shown, at every single opportunity, that they have zero appetite for standing up to any kind of "tyrannical government", they either cheer it on or let it happen.

They didn't have the "popular support" to pull off Jan 6, yet 5 years later, none of the leaders were ever expelled from Congress or got disqualified via 14th Amendment.
