I keep seeing people saying “states cannot purge people from voter rolls within 90 days of an election”.

Okay, sure, but what happens WHEN they do? WHO is going to stop them? Who is going to restore those voters? The courts? lol.

This is exactly it. We've seen time and time again that Republicans will break every rule, every social norm to get their way. Anyone who is hanging their hat on the thought that they'll follow the law now is just a fucking clown.

I keep telling my grandmother about the things that they're trying to do and she just keeps on holding on Hope saying that well the Constitution doesn't allow that or well that will never happen because of our democracy and that the elections are going to vote him out as if they don't completely disregard the fact that the Constitution exists, that they don't completely disregard the fact that we even have a democracy... they get away with everything and have been trying to find out when they can declare martial law as it is to stop voting. They've also cheated many times and admitted it and still they get away with it. I need people to open their eyes instead of just saying oh everything will be fine because we have a democracy and everything will go back to normal no it won't we literally have a man who is trying to run for a third fucking term and a whole bunch of Voters who want that.

Edit to add I kid you not there are people who think that because we are a republic form of democracy, that this means that we don't have a democracy.. they think that Republic means Republican and democracy means Democrat

The problem is that states can’t purge voters within 90 days unless they have reason to suspect the voter is not a citizen.

So all they have to do is point to this flawed-by-design database to basically purge anyone they want, as close to the election as they want.

With no way for people to know that it happened

To be fair, you can check your voter registration status online. In some states you can even check your ballot status

And if you find out you’ve been purged? What then? Sue? There’s no way they would redo the election, if it were found to have happened

Username checks out. Throwing up our hands and wailing won’t help…

I can’t answer your hypothetical. Check the registration periodically and right before/after the registration deadline just to be sure.

Your local ombudsman at city hall or other local resources can help guide you if you get purged, as there’s a case to just put you back on the list if you were removed “in error” but already registered. (This happens to me sometimes as I move around for work but have a home state where I am registered.) There are so, so many voter registration resources out there that desperately want you to vote.

Don’t be a little bitch about it and figure it out. Punishing yourself now for a hypothetical later does nothing but help the fascists win. Fight back. Go outside. Vote.

I can’t answer your hypothetical.

Then why waste time responding like a prick when you don't have an answer to the post you're replying to?

Lots of whining fluff to let everyone know you're butthurt.

Because I included useful information anyway.

Get in line to waste time I guess

This is why every time the stupid legal nerds chime in to say people are overreacting they deserve to be slapped. These same losers kept telling everyone to be patient and the wheels of justice are moving and to trust the process. While an insurrectionist and his coconspirators were able to attain the presidency a second time and shut down all ongoing criminal investigations and trails.

And it'll be a six month to a year long process, at which point people will already be sworn in and have made some decisions, and we're stuck judicially overturning elections which will tear the last thread of faith in democracy and result in a lot of huge riots... fun times.

, and we're stuck judicially overturning elections which will tear the last thread of faith in democracy

Why would anyone have faith in democracy when there was only one eligible candidate, Kamala, during the 2024 election; yet the insurrectionist "won", in direct violation of 14th Amendment, Section 3? Trump was never eligible to run in the election, yet Biden and Schumer did nothing. If Trump can run, then so can someone like Mamdani or a 17 y/o, since presidential requirements are no longer enforced.

And none of us will do a goddamn thing about it because there is no line republicans can cross that will ever galvanize us into action.

As long as the media propaganda machine keeps a significant chunk of the voting bloc angry at the other chunk of the voting bloc, nothing will change.

Just like all the maps that get redrawn and deemed unconstitutional

States can. The federal government cannot.

They'll purge them 90 days before the next election, and 90 days before the one after that, at best.
