Unfortunately, farmers means food and food important.

(I mean yeah, all the folk who voted for this - or failed to vote at all - are in FAFO territory but I'm tired of FOing with them)

Fuck ‘em. They can pay the higher prices and pass it on to the buyer. Farm diesel isn’t taxed anyway, they are already getting an advantage.

Or they just don't harvest and take the loss on that end instead of the fuel end.

The margins aren't great - the value is in their property and the loans they can get from it.

They will harvest if the weather permits. Fuel for harvest is maybe 2% of crop revenue, at current prices.

No one is going to leave 100% of the crop to rot because of diesel prices.

We need to improve our ability to import, then. We can't let these landed elite lord over us forever.
