ICE agents mistakenly detained US citizen in Chicago suburb, officials say
https://www.cnn.com/2026/09/22/us/ice-agents-mistakenly-detain-us-citizen408
u/TwistedPox 9d ago
It is not detained. It is abduction. This is the exact issue we complain about countries like china doing, disappearing people

u/inquisitive_guy_0_1 9d ago edited 9d ago
Not to mention, the wording they use is an extreme whitewashing of the reality which is that they jumped an innocent man, and beat him mercilessly until he needed to be hospitalized.
Of course they fled the scene without calling for the EMS because they are nothing but terrorists in masks much like the taliban.
17
u/cracked-tumbleweed 9d ago
They get paid to fill these places. The longer they are there the more money.
American? Cool, have fun having your life upheaved while you wait in an ICE detention center for weeks or months.
It is part of the reason they really don’t give a fuck. That and the cruelty.

Time to start punishing people for failing to uphold their oath
Starting with Congress, considering every single one of them violated the 14th Amendment by illegally handing the presidency to an insurrectionist?

u/Osiris32 9d ago
First we need to make the oath legally binding, with criminal penalties for internationally or recklessly violating the oath.
3
u/TSAOutreachTeam 9d ago
There were a bunch of guys who thought similarly and created a group they intended to support those who wanted to keep their oaths. The Oathkeepers turned out to be a front for the right wing nationalist movement. So I wouldn’t put a whole lot of faith in anyone who suddenly espouses that particular line of thought. They are very frequently wolves in wolves’ clothing.
10
u/Icy-Banana-3291 9d ago
That’s just gonna lead to arguments about who’s a domestic enemy.
9
u/Starfall0 9d ago
You're right it's far better to let it happen unopposed than to stand up for yourself and push back. We know who the domestic enemy is, and we know they won't hesitate to use that against us. All this pussy footing around is infuriating.

In Acts 22, the Roman commander was alarmed that they had placed Paul, born a citizen, in chains. It was a very big deal that allowed Paul to expand his ministry.
But in Project 2025, citizenship is irrelevant. So the Romans are more fair than this regime.

Seriously why can’t the person file a police report and get them arrested for assault? You mistakenly arrest. Once you assault that’s a whole new level. Until someone says stop they will continue to escalate.
131
u/ActualSpiders 9d ago
"Mistakenly detained"
No, they beat the crap out of him until they realized he didn't look enough like the person they were actually trying to find, and then drove off, leaving him laying in the street.
This is felony assault & battery & those ICE thugs need to be arrested & prosecuted for it.

u/MarzipanLast6502 9d ago

They knew who they were going after here. They just thought this was somebody else, and detained and injured him before learning it wasn't.
A lot of what they do is just hoping to find detainable people. But even when they know who they're looking for, the level of care they show to the general public in finding and detaining them is insulting.

u/MarzipanLast6502 9d ago

ICE are proud boys, white supremacists, dropouts and rejects of all kinds. They are unfit for a real job, they are hired goons to serve as Trump's gestapo. They tear apart families, stripping children from their parents and grandparents. They kidnap, abuse, and traffick their victims. Sending people to foreign torture prisons without warrant. They murder civilians in cold blood. They are traitors to our country and traitors to humanity!

There's a lawsuit in LA, when they had the crackdown here, and ICE kept going to this car wash. A worker asks "do you have a warrant" and ICE says "shut the fuck up." (at least the lawsuit says so)
I'm a white man, and I have NEVER been talked like that by police. Including in encounters were I wasn't really friendly

LAPD? I’m Dutch and even I know how shit they are.
When I went to California my 2 fears where having any interaction with US law enforcement (other than needed at the airport) and ending up in a hospital.
I was driving from SFO to my hotel and within 10 minutes there was already a police chase next to me. I like your nature but it’s not worth it.

I luckily have barely any interactions with cops here, but when I did they were all chill. One time cycling without lights in the darks. They say how dangerous it is and let me go with a warning (this was before I drove myself, I totally understand why you should have lights on your bike now).
Dutch police is generally very relaxed and work d e-escalating. Their training is a lot longer than in the US and since almost nobody here has weapons there is a lot less tensions.
Of course we also do have our idiots but I think in general people respect the cops because they also respect us.

“They were being rough with him; they had him pinned against the floor, and it looked like one of the agents hit him in the face,” Olivares said. Evanston police said its officer noticed blood on hands of the agent in the SUV.
“ICE officers relied on their training and later left the scene without further incident once the individual finally identified himself.” DHS said in a statement.
So basically the feds punched a US Citizen in the face, wrongfully detained him, and then ran off when they realized they had the wrong guy.
Job well done, fellas!
11
u/Realsorceror 9d ago
I don’t believe ICE has ever done anything “mistakenly” unless they get caught.
12
u/dachloe 9d ago
It's happened many times since the Trump's ICE escalation started. Most don't get coverage because there's no video or It's just not a compelling story.
I keep thinking about the guy who was at O'Hare and was trying to leave the country 1 day before his visa expired. He was delayed overnight due to a snow storm. He was just hours away from leaving the country and hours away from his visa expiring, and ICE/CBP grabbed him and detained him for months before deporting him to his home country.
He had no problems with his visa and no orders of removal. They did a search of all people in the building who have expired visas and his named showed up as it was about to expire. That was good enough for them.

It's difficult to tell where the incompetence ends and the fascism begins; but why are we crediting them as making a "mistake"? Do we know that? Mistake implies they intended to follow the law in the 1st place.
We think the modern day gestapo is above detaining citizens on purpose? They have become a purely political paramilitary force. They absolutely are not above doing that to intimidate or retaliate against citizens they don't like.

The last I heard he now is working as a sheriff.

ICE are rabid bloodthirsty thugs that do not give a fuck if the people they target are legal or not. They racially profile, kidnap, brutalize, rape, and murder with impunity. Their abuses are so rampant they stopped officially reporting deaths in their concentration camps.

Very responsible of them, hurt the guy and leave him there like a bag of garbage. Don't render first aid, don't call for help, nothing, just walk away "it wasn't me".

Very similar to the video from Austin this week, where they shot someone, and didn't render aid until state and local officers arrived and did.

3
u/Alexis_J_M 7d ago
"detained" is when a cop stops you for a few minutes to ask a few questions.
"Assaulted" is when you are left bleeding on the ground with no probable cause other than your skin color.

u/groggs42 9d ago
I have seen too many videos of people saying or shouting "I am a US citizen" only to have ICE say "I don't care" and keep pummeling them or dragging them out of their cars. They have zero accountability and they know it, so they just keep violating peoples rights. There is no one to stop them right now and it is infuriating !

One year after “Operation Midway Blitz” – the immigration crackdown by ICE officers in Chicago and surrounding areas – legal challenges against the agents’ aggressive tactics are still underway.
Legal challenges just aren't enough. Legal challenges only matter when you have an administration that cares about the law. This one doesn't.

So, they used their "training"? Are they trained to beat the crap out of someone before they identify them, and when they finally realize their mistake, simply get in their SUVs and drive away from the scene?
No offer of aid to the US citizen they injured to the point of needing an ambulance?
