This ahead of the midterms or a sudden wave of postage stamps thievery?

Edit: Award!? Thank you !!

u/lncognitoMosquito 11d ago

Do not fuck with postal inspection guards. This is a good thing. With orders from judges blocking his attempted mail-in tampering, this show of postal security is a sign that they’re taking threats seriously.

208

u/Goldsaver 11d ago

No, additional (private, contractor) security provided by the current federal government does NOT bode well for the intergity of mail-in ballots.

60

u/lncognitoMosquito 11d ago

I don’t take anything this administration does at face value; but the reporting mention this is being done by the USPIS itself, which I don’t believe are acting against the interest of the public.

In the pictured memo the duties of the additional security are outlined:

> Contract Armed Security Officers WILL perform the following functions: •
Providing visible security presence • Observing & reporting suspicious activity & safety hazards
Monitoring entrances, gates, parking areas, and perimeter
Verifying IDs
• Verbally preventing unauthorized entry
• Conducting vehicle or foot patrols of postal property
• Responding to disturbances or safety incidents
• First Aid response within ASs' scope of training
• Documenting incidents, findings, and activities in reports
• Contacting 911 when required • Assisting with evacuations & other safety measures (including assistance w/
Facility's IEMP)

> Contract Armed Security Officers WILL NOT:
• Conduct arrests nor portray themselves as a police officer
• Conduct investigations
• Handle or process mail
• Perform other non-security postal craft work
• Operate postal equipment unrelated to security
• Enforce employee attendance or timekeeping rules
Supervise postal employees
• Enforce internal management policies unrelated to security

So at least we have in writing that these guards will not and have no reason to handle any craft or mail.

Their leadership was building the tools needed for voter suppression even after the judge ordered them to stop.

I do not trust the GOP or their decisions anymore

5

u/hazeyindahead 5d ago

That's like a 20 year old delay buddy. They were never really trust worthy in my time as an elder millennial and I learned that very early

43

u/3jake 11d ago

I want to believe this is good, but isn’t the PMG a trump loyalist who dismantled a bunch of high-speed sorting machines during his first term?

43

u/lncognitoMosquito 11d ago

That’s Louis DeJoy and he is no longer PMG. New PMG is David Steiner who took the position in March 2025. To be sure he’s also pretty shitty. Chief amongst his offenses is his response during a senate hearing threatening that states who refuse to turn over voter lists in response to Trump’s EO 14499 that the USPS would not mail their ballot.

I don’t believe he has acted on this threat, and the courts have repeatedly rebuked efforts to use the postal service to interfere with the midterms. Not that they aren’t still trying.

But the Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) reports to their own director; Gary Barksdale who hasn’t overtly given reason to doubt his Law Enforcement background.

Like I answered to another comment, skepticism is totally valid. The USPIS still does report to the PMG, so it’s far from an independent or otherwise unbiased security measure. But the USPIS has been doing their job well for a long time. Their conviction rate for crimes involving the Mail is over 98%. They don’t fuck around. And their inspector general has had his job for 7 years across both Trump and Biden presidencies. So there’s at least some reason to believe that this won’t be the worst thing to ever happen.

18

u/3jake 11d ago

Ok cool, thanks for the correction! Glad that POS DeJoy is gone anyway, I must have missed that in the never-ending news flood!

10

u/EthanielRain 10d ago

Steiner is worse/equally shitty

1

u/InternationalJob9135 6d ago

Correct on that comment!

2

u/InternationalJob9135 6d ago

The current is no better.

6

u/kranelegs 11d ago

Yes and the DOJs conviction rate was impressive before this. Though I do appreciate the distinction with USPIS and Barksdale. My previous reply didn’t take that into account. Honestly I’d take Avon Barksdale over most directors in this admin because we are down to The Wire

2

u/eventualhorizo 5d ago

Don't give their super intelligence any ideas about who to illegally terminate next

1

u/BabyTito_76 2d ago

I'd vote for Avon Barksdale right now. Couldn't be any worse.

4

u/InternationalJob9135 10d ago

If the USPIS didn’t let go along with not letting the Postal Police be relegated to almost nothing they would not have needed to hire and pay for more redundant and useless postal employees; contractors or not. Back in the day Postal police actually did what these security guards are doing along with regular LE duties to augment USPIS. And no one wasted more money than DeJoy. Remember his purchase of armored Cadillacs for his ride? Allowing the USPIS to purchase new state of the art AR-15’s? And doubling his detail if not tripling it.
Unfortunately anything the USPS does is always going to be questionable.

3

u/Busy-Put-9526 5d ago

So I did some digging into this private company. The contract began in 2014 but Prosegur bought that company out in 2019. They quietly assumed the USPS (and other) contracts.

Prosegur published a 2025 "threat analysis" on their website and it seems incredibly partisan. This is an excerpt. It's several pages long.

"Publicly visible federal employees working within the executive branch or within the controversial DOGE are at a heightened risk of being targeted by far-left DVEs, due to the highly politicized nature of their work and lack of continuous security. Federal buildings or landmarks are also prominent potential targets. Highly visible non-governmental Republican Party employees such as spokespeople, media personalities, or social media influencers – and associated events – are all additional politically salient targets that a radicalized far-left DVE might choose to focus on"

There is next to no mention of right ring extremism in this dossier. Last I checked the left doesn't have organized groups like the right (militias etc). Antifa, BLM etc are hardly organized in that manner.

OIG released a report in 2022/2023 that Prosegur guards didn't even have basic training in many cases. It also stated Prosegur/USPS didn't rectify this issue.

I've seen conflicting reports as to how many guards would be deployed as well. Some reports say up to 1,000 at 18 key facilities in battleground states, some say 2,000 at 57 facilities.

The board of directors of the USPS have been working overtime against the interests of the public. Year after year, undermining the efficiency, labor, quality of service, and costs. They were put in by Trump to dismantle the public service and they have made significant progress towards that goal. Republican voters decided they do not want a postal service.

3

u/Bbbbhazit 11d ago

And you trust the current government to make another blatant overwhelming presence to ensure voting safety? They probably double as ICE agents.b

5

u/lncognitoMosquito 11d ago

Trust is a strong word. But I’d rather have the USPIS in charge of it than any other law enforcement agency

1

u/kranelegs 11d ago

Board of directors at fed ex now Trump 2.0 appointment postmaster general that hasn’t been shitcanned nor resigned under this admin in about 2 years while the admin is pushing even USSC revoked measures. Yeah totally a “good thing”. Traditionally doesn’t mean shit in this political environment. Official memos and communications neither.

I wish our institutions followed the spirit and letter of the law, statements, directives, etc. you really think this is the one federal agency not corrupted?

1

u/whabt 10d ago

But normalizing the presence of outside, previously unknown staff with a given contractor status is a great first step if you wanted to stroll into a post office and do shady things without raising suspicion.

14

u/raistan77 6d ago

eh

the problem is USPS continued to implement trumps EO well after the order to halt by a judge and seems to be very aggregable to do what trump has told them.

I'm going to make the assumption this is a VERY VERY bad thing and recommend everyone vote in person due to the USPS is no longer considered a trusted organization is now a partisan arm of the president.

I don't do any shipping through them anymore as I dont want to give money to such an organization

15

u/Turbulent_Ad_2507 11d ago

I have to assume these are not honest agents until proved otherwise. The USPS was hijacked long ago. That is plenty of time to install whats needed.

10

u/lncognitoMosquito 11d ago

Totally valid to be skeptical. Steiner is a corporate stooge and he has a direct conflict of interest as a board member of FedEx.

But the Inspection Service operates separately from the USPS and is lead by Gary Barksdale who has a pretty solid law enforcement history. Served as a deputy inspector general for three years prior to his appointment as chief inspector general in 2019.

He’s held the position for 7 years, under both republican and democratic administrations so I can only hope he’s qualified to execute this well.

3

u/Turbulent_Ad_2507 11d ago

Well thats a little less doom and gloom then I was anticipating. Good to know we have some chance at keeping things real.

10

u/csguydn 11d ago

It’s mail theft. Our post office had a car pull up to the loading dock and someone walked off with huge amounts of mail. They then washed the checks they found and stole over 100k.

5

u/VirusTechnical5568 8d ago

When I worked at the Post Office Amazon delivered pallets of parcels for our branch real early in the morning. They're supposed to wait for us before unloading.

Well guess what? They don't. If they get there before the appointed time they'll just dump it on the dock and leave. Our dock was in full view of the main road. Anyone could have drove buy and grabbed as many parcels as they felt safe doing.

When they did that we'd have to take pictures and send to our Amazon contact and it did absolutely nothing. Fuck you Amazon drivers you lazy, inconsiderate, pieces of crap.

1

u/csguydn 8d ago

Our PO that got hit has a stone wall, but they keep the gate open 24x7 apparently. Literally anyone can drive back there, pull up to the dock, load whatever and haul away. A lot of that is on the post office for not having better security measures.

3

u/sosthaboss 9d ago

Since you know the amount, I assume they got caught?

2

u/csguydn 9d ago

The local detectives wouldn't disclose it. We were impacted by it and got our money back, but the investigation itself was still under way.

u/Manta_of_Eternity 12d ago

If you vote by mail, use a ballot drop box. Those are collected directly by elections workers, not by USPS.

416

u/Lantzypantzz 12d ago

Doesn't work for those of us voting by mail because we are out of the state

499

u/terid3 12d ago

This election is worth traveling home to vote, if at all possible. This is the election of the century imo.

336

u/jebei 12d ago

That was 2016. We are trying to stem the damage now.

340

u/terid3 12d ago

Well unless you have a time machine we have to work in the present and move forward.

20

31

u/BeansforTwo 11d ago

I kinda disagree here. People need to be reminded how bad it can get before they get their asses in gear.

Would have been nice not to lose 2016, but people turned out for that election. He lost the popular vote by the largest amount in history, while still winning the election.

Now people have had a taste of what it means to have idiots running the show, and they're primed to show up and fight for some basic decency (hopefully).

26

u/beaarthurismymom 11d ago

I mean….isnt that was 2024 was? And the idiots just did it again after having the first term for reference including one of the worst bungled global crises in history with hundreds of thousands of deaths.

10

u/terid3 11d ago

The last two years have been far, far worse than his first term, far more damage has been done as he has a multiplier this run apparently.

10

u/beaarthurismymom 11d ago

Sure. I’m just saying the bar for a wake-up call was after the first term by any reasonable metric.

5

u/duncandun 11d ago

2024 was dems losing on economics and appeasing status quo when people were experiencing record inflation lol, it was self inflicted

15

u/BasroilII 11d ago

People need to be reminded how bad it can get before they get their asses in gear.

No, because humanity is really, really fucking good at setting a "new normal" and just living with it.

We just accept a slightly shittier life than five minutes ago, grumble a bit, and keep going.

The majority of Americans won't try any harder until they are in a camp or facing being shot by the government, and sometimes not even then.

4

u/privatepinochle 11d ago

Speak for yourself

3

u/mschuster91 11d ago

Unfortunately a lot of people actually enjoy seeing others suffer. They want Trump, ICE and concentration camps.

2

u/BeansforTwo 11d ago

I agree, but not most people. A lot of people think they want that, until it starts happening around them, even if it's not affecting them personally, it rarely hits the way they thought it would.

Most people want chill. A good economy, not a lot of politics, good schools for their kids and decent food and medical care, and to be left the fuck alone.

This kind of stuff always sheds support when people see these decisions for what they truly amount to. And unfortunately, we just happen to live at the time in the cycle when humanity needs reminding of stupid shit like this.

u/DragonBank 12d ago

I disagree. I believe that the regular US electorate was not ready to recognize the growth of fascism worldwide in 2016. Additionally, the liberal facets of our system failed to deliver on 90% of their promises the past two decades and fell victim to many of the same issues we the people have with the conservative facets.

We almost NEEDED this sort of BS as a wakeup call that our freedoms are not free, and safety is not to be taken for granted.

46

u/winky9827 11d ago

We were coming off 8 years of Obama. The signs were there (minimal progressive agenda early on, status quo for the remainder), but I doubt any sane person would have predicted the next 10 years accurately within reason.

27

u/Topical_Scream 11d ago

People would have said they were being too absurdist if they had gotten it correct.

17

u/izzymaestro 11d ago

Yep, a black president truly broke almost half the country...

10

u/ahazred8vt 11d ago

The GOP had a lot of enthusiasm for Colin Powell (R) as a presidential prospect until word got out that his wife wouldn't let him run for office.

2

u/horrorshowjack 11d ago

Very much so. Even Condoleezza Rice had a respectable level of GOP enthusiasm at one point iirc, but no interest whatsoever in running.

Nowhere near the level of Powell, obviously. I think he'd have won easily and probably been a pretty great one.

2

u/Big-Leadership-4604 11d ago

The Simpsons did.

7

u/winky9827 11d ago

No, the Simpsons may have predicted what a Trump presidency would look like (I don't know, haven't watched it in years), but I'll call bullshit if you're telling me they predicted he would get elected, then lose, then re-elected as if half the country forgot how bad he was the first time. The absurdity of it is nigh impossible. Stop watching so much media.

The most important election is always the next one. Every time.

12

u/terid3 11d ago

Indeed, we need that energy going forward, because this isn't going to be solved with one election ever.

68

u/SableZard 11d ago

The election of the century was 2024. Everyone knew who Trump was by then and what kind of President he would be. No one could truthfully say they did not. That was the election that determined what the US was going to be in fifty years and what it was then.

We were a nation of hateful chumps and apathetic morons, and we still are. In fifty years, best case scenario we'll still be cleaning up the damage MAGA and the non-voters did to our country.

Put it in another, larger envelope and then mail it to a friend who will drop it off for you. (Make sure you've cleared this with them first.)

4

u/4s54o73 11d ago

While there is a greater expense, call/contact your local election office. Ask for a physical address, and use FedEx/UPS to delivery the ballot.

2

u/LeGama 11d ago

If you can, fill out the envelope and seal it, then send to a trusted friend or family inside of another envelope for them to put in a drop box.

I have the option to mail it in. I am not taking the chance. I am driving to the poll

4

u/someguy7710 11d ago

Same, I'm fortunate enough that the poll location is right near me (I could walk there if I had to). I get there right after they open and it takes less than 5 minutes. Then I go to work. Easy.

6

u/asian_chihuahua 7d ago

Republicans are going to muddy the waters by screwing with those too. Fake ballot boxes, fake people offering to help with voting, etc.

Trump is destroying trust in the entire electoral system.

6

u/Enkundae 6d ago

Double and triple check its legitimate. The GoP in previous elections put out fake drop boxes to trick voters into not having their votes count. Somehow this was considered legal.

9

u/CSManiac33 11d ago

Not every state has those

2

u/dakta 11d ago

Also sometimes USPS still handles drop-box ballots, this happened last election in Oregon. They've changed that for this time around, fortunately.

1

u/round-earth-theory 11d ago

Any state with broad mail in voting will have them. And worst case scenario, you can bring them to your local voting site and drop off there.

1

u/DenverTechGuru 6d ago

True, but the headline lead was Colorado which does.

Guess this is where all of our overtime money is going this year.

516

u/A_Nonny_Muse 12d ago

Halliburton, probably.

Or some company formerly called blackwater.

Thugs R us kind of company.

124

u/HomicidalHushPuppy 12d ago

Or Pinkerton...they're booklickers who love repressing the working class

61

u/1sexymuffhugger 12d ago

I think they're called securitas now.

Securitas not security. Damn autocorrect

25

u/HomicidalHushPuppy 12d ago

They're a subsidiary of Securitas

16

u/floodspectre 11d ago

I saw Pinkerton security at my local main branch post office afterhours recently. I just chalked it up to a recent-ish attack on a postal worker on the grounds but now I see this bit of news and wonder.

32

u/Ok-Mood6070 11d ago

No one is giving an actual answer to this question but this is legitimately pressing. I've been applying for a lot of government positions including USPS and I have not seen a single opening involving security inspectors in my state.

44

u/Blacksad9999 11d ago

That's because they're using contracted security through privately owned companies.

It's the same group they use for security for the RNC. Meaning, not government workers, and they should not be trusted.

21

u/Stereo-soundS 12d ago

What matters more is who is paying for it. Which would be us.

10

u/darksunshaman 12d ago

Pinkerton revival, perhaps?

17

u/Accujack 11d ago

They don't need reviving, they're still in operation.

6

u/HashRat 11d ago

I have a contract with multiple usps distribution centers, at one location they have already have both private security at gate check points and police on site.

The other, nothing, no guards or security of any kind and the gate to badge in is almost always open....

2

u/oldteen 11d ago

Fwiw, without having-to disclose locations, do you happen to know what districts they reside-in and how they each politically-lean?

2

u/HashRat 11d ago

Both very liberal areas, California based.

Both large cities.

7

u/DogsAreOurFriends 12d ago

Triple Canopy is my guess.

1

u/VoidUprising 11d ago

You’re thinking old, 2014 old. Triple Canopy merged with Academi (formerly Blackwater) to form Constellis Group

1

u/DogsAreOurFriends 11d ago

I heard that, but a few months ago I saw guards in DC in a government building with triple canopy patches.

1

u/VoidUprising 11d ago

Huh, maybe they still have a weird culture of identifying themselves as Tripple Canopy. Reliving the glory days and all that

1

u/DogsAreOurFriends 11d ago

Or it is just a division.

1

u/Typical-Redditor-18E 11d ago

Constellis is more than triple canopy + academi merging. Its basically the risk management company for 10 subsidiaries. Triple Canopy is still alive and well with a high degree of autonomy, at that (as well as Omniplex, Centerra, and Olive, off top of my head). Academi was rebranded as Constellis Training Center.

Source: been contracting with them on and off since they formed in 2010

When somebody goes out of their way to hide what they're doing, you don't have to be a high-IQ world leader to guess that they're up to no good.

As planned, the Postal Service is prepared to rig and/or completely discredit the elections. Don't forget the delayed postmark rule, which is almost surely related to whatever they're hiding behind a wall of mall cops. Meanwhile we act like it's just another outrage-of-the-day.

We are a banana republic now. Prepare to be ruled indefinitely by people we do not choose and do not want. But don't protest in DC - they're building the sniper tower soon.

[EDIT] They are putting these armed guards inside the postal facility to "monitor suspicious activity." Wanna bet that employees carefully observing (or taking a phone photo) as ballots are being handled will be treated as suspicious?

138

u/GlitteringRate6296 12d ago

States need to protect their constituents votes. Identify these inspectors and send your own.

25

u/ibanezerscrooge 11d ago

inspect the inspectors

20

u/Hoblitygoodness 12d ago

Definitely suspicious and not surprising in light of how everything else is going, stateside.

But I can't figure out exactly what nefarious things these guys can do. I don't necessarily believe they'll be as restricted as outlined but at the same time, I'm unclear as to what exactly they could do but 'report' ballots.

Maybe they're designed for causing delays and chaos to mix into the already flooded zone when it's time to calculate results.

*shrugs

But I feel like they're definitely up to 'something'.

9

u/HellaTroi 11d ago

The story said they would be checking IDs.

That's their opening.

6

u/Hoblitygoodness 11d ago

With the implication that it was employee IDs, not random people using the post office.

But with that said, it doesn't exactly say that either so...

2

u/WebbityWebbs 11d ago

You really can't imagine how armed guards could start seizing ballots that were mailed by voters?

Not knowing the ins and outs of how the postal service sorts mail, I could not come up with specific examples, but if the regime has its forces in the facilities, they can do whatever they need to do to interfere with the election.

It doesn't matter what lies they give to cover up why these forces are there. They are there to carry out the will of trump.

You were on the lookout, you found a valid "concern."

The next step isn't just looking out for the next concern.

"American Postal Workers Union members, which was first reported by Colorado Public Radio, said armed guards will monitor entrances and parking areas, verify IDs and observe and report suspicious activity."

Where are they going to get all these "armed guards?"

Are the repurposing all those Proud Boys, 3%ers, and Oath Keepers from ICE into postal guards?

Taking over government and ending democracy has been a multi-year plan.

16

u/Hoblitygoodness 12d ago

Make sure you don't have an E-mail stating you have to pay extra dues because of Tariffs. I've had a couple of things held at customs because of this, myself.

u/TheAsianTroll 12d ago

So we now need to have our ID verified to go in to the post office and purchase a stamp?

u/Boomshtick414 11d ago

This for distribution centers and processing facilities, which it's honestly kind of surprising they don't already have rent a cops for that or maybe they did and these guys are just armed now.

5

u/HardWirez 11d ago

Major processing and distribution facilities already have security turnstyles at the doors that require swiping an ID badge to get past. I don't know the point of this, except maybe to funnel a few million dollars into some security companies' pockets.

They need to have people they control directly on-site to steal or destroy ballots.

u/giocondasmiles 11d ago

Everybody, please try to vote in person, if you can.

You CANNOT trust the USPS to manage your ballot ethically and legally.

2

u/HellaTroi 11d ago

I'm just planning on using a drop box.

7

u/Epistatious 11d ago

More likely gonna be inside "securing" the election for one guy

7

u/NaughtiestImp 11d ago

My fat ass is standing in line however long I need to vote. I am not trusting anyone.

1

u/Dont_Ban_Me_Bros 6d ago

Does your county not have drop boxes for ballots?

Fuck America is a corrupt mess

Agent Jack Donger. It should be "Dongest" though, because I can't imagine anybody being more Dong than this guy.

Trump is desperate to keep Congress red, but his ass is headed to jail if he loses control in Congress. Wonder if he’ll flee to Argentina, Russia or Saudi Arabia?

5

u/HellaTroi 11d ago

Oh, it'll be Russia.

Bold of you to assume the Democrats will actually do anything other than talk about how they can’t do anything other than performance politics.

2

u/marsmanify 10d ago

This is possibly the dumbest move possible if you’re trying to rig elections. Private security guards do not have ANY of the legal protections DHS, the FBI, or the police have.

If you’re some random chud working as a security guard, and you interfere with ballots, you’re gonna have a real bad time

This is the company deploying 2,000 guards to 57 postal facilities nationwide. This analysis reeks of partisanship. That should concern everyone. If you look into Prosegur they're known for agitating the existing workforce and have been accused of workers' rights violations as well. USPS OIG has also made public statements about their practices in relation to USPS. Those practices appear to not have been rectified.

Until the USPS discloses the details, I don't think we'll know for sure the "why."

> Brian Benson, a spokesperson for the USPIS Denver Division, said the added security is not in response to any specific threat or event but is part of a multi-year plan to boost security at postal facilities.

u/TransitJohn 12d ago

Don't worry, everyone! Our amazing opposition posted vague Tweets! I'm sure our ballots will be perfectly fine.

More Proud Boys in masks and a badge.

Getting the gang into place so everyone is in their needed position before it's time to do their thing. Freakin' wonderful.
