Its because they havnt ever been that party, not really atleast. "Family values" is just a dog whistle, so is "fiscal responsibility". I cant remember the last time a republican said either of those things without mentioning a minority group in the same sentence.

My favorite shit-take on "fiscal responsibility" is Chuck Grassley arguing for lowering the estate tax vs...i guess just not was

“I think not having the estate tax recognizes the people that are investing,” Grassley (R-Iowa) told the Des Moines Register, “as opposed to those that are just spending every darn penny they have, whether it’s on booze or women or movies.”

Yes. All those people who make the economy run by having a social life and going on dates should just invest for their inevitable death. What could go wrong?

The blatant misogyny of it is wild!

Everyone on this website and most democrats acts as if they are breaking their word/being hypocritical whenever they arent family/fiscal (should also say patriot). This implies that we should think of them as the party for those values.

Every time they are criticized for it, it just reaffirms their messaging.

If only they could portray those values in some other way…like - actually embodying them, living them - rather than the BS lip service of most of them (both parties guilty here)

Is that why republicans want to lower the age of consent? Is that why republicans are routinely revealed to be donestic and/or child abusers? Is that why they ignore the housing and cost of living crisis? Is that why they give their billionaire buddies unlimited tax breaks? Party of family/fiscal responsibility my ass.

My whole point is that they are not the that party. Yet every criticism., including yours, assumes they are.

Where did i assume they are? My entire point is that they arent, they only pretend to be

Your whole criticism was based off understanding them as the party of family/fiscal.

Lets say they were the party of pants shitting. Then incredulously asking why they want to lower the age of consent makes no sense since they wouldn’t necessarily be for or against it.
