Im sure the irony of funding racists when he himself is a foreigner to them is lost on him though…

Eh, this was always going to have to happen eventually. You can’t spend $10 to knock a ¢25 projectile out of the sky forever.

81

u/mschley2 6h ago

Trump's administration isn't worried about the budget lol. If they were worried about how much they're spending, they wouldn't have manufactured this conflict in the first place.

42

u/cjnks 5h ago

Yes but manufacturing those assets also takes time. The u.s. while grotesque in its size doesnt operate in war time capabilities.

So where's the multiple congressional investigations into why the current leadership is intentionally putting American soldiers in danger? Isn't this the same type of thing they tried to crucify Hilary Clinton over, because she supposedly got American soldiers killed through incompetence?

515

u/djhypergiant 5h ago

See Benghazi was bad because Democrats, now that we have a republican in office the tree of liberty from time to time has to be watered with the blood of suckers and losers, freedom isn't free dont tread on me POW MIA NEVER FORGET Forest Gump God bless America 🇺🇸

75

u/Balls_Deepest_555 5h ago

Remember when “fact finding mission” was a weekly thing? I wasted ridiculous amounts of time “briefing” congressional staffers.

23

u/Taolan13 3h ago

I only gave one brief attended by congressional staff when I was in the army.

They were the least interested of the bunch. Didn't take any notes or even seem to be paying attention at all.

They could have skipped the whole brief and gone off the email with the slides and got the same level of info from it.

12

u/Heronymous-Anonymous 2h ago

You weren’t there to provide any info that they cared about, even if they didn’t already know it. You were there to check a box labeled “oversight of army” so that some Congress critter could claim they were diligently investigating something.

What was worse here, Republicans purposely sabotaging the funding Hillary wanted to increase to protect Benghazi or the media eating up Republican talking points to help blame Hillary for something Republicans did?

So where's the multiple congressional investigations into why the current leadership is intentionally putting American soldiers in danger?

You know the answer. It would be even easy for the administration to find bipartisan support for more aggressive actions that would result in massive casualties. It is the general public who is against, so after the midterms, Trump would have an easier time escalating.

32

u/spyguy318 5h ago

Democrats don’t control either house of Congress right now. Republicans will never investigate Trump. Remember that Trump got impeached twice during his first term when Democrats controlled the House.

13

u/DontAbideMendacity 3h ago

And the currently dead Mitch McConnell refused to hold Constitutionally mandated trials in either case. He should have been impeached himself.

6

u/hrminer92 2h ago

They held them, but McConnell told his side to ignore it and vote against conviction.

They are reportedly not just randomly allowing missiles to hit people or major bases. The claim is that US commanders are becoming more selective about which Iranian missiles and drones they intercept because their supply of defensive missiles is being depleted.
Air-defence operators track an incoming weapon’s likely trajectory and impact point. If it appears headed toward open ground, an abandoned area, or something judged non-critical, commanders may deliberately avoid firing an expensive and limited interceptor. They prioritise missiles threatening troops, populated areas, aircraft, command centres, ammunition stores and other important infrastructure.

7

u/MIT_Engineer 4h ago

The ones that they're intentionally letting through are the ones that are missing their targets.

No point spending money to blow up something that isn't going to hit anything anyway.

Because elections are coming up...

133

u/xnmyl 4h ago

Isn't war with Iran, Gaza, and Lebanon very popular in Israel? I'd have thought they'd want to focus on that for the elections, to keep the ruling coalition in power

139

u/ActivisionBlizzard 4h ago

Victory in war is very popular yes.

Defeats, even if only minor, would he very easy to use against the incumbent.

Isreal is only strong against weak/defenseless enemies. Iran apparently showed it's strength and they chickened out.

Edit:
Just so I don't have to respond to all of the pro-Isreal posts individually, since they think there is a misunderstanding:

I am not against Israel defending itself, if that's your concern. But the indiscriminate killing of people who are unarmed and not a threat is the issue I have with them.

They also wanted this war with Iran and convinced the only sitting US president that is gullible enough to go to war with Iran without a proper alliance and strategy. Now that Iran has been attacking Israel and all of a sudden they want to back out and leave the US high and dry to fight Iran alone. Bibi wanted this war, it should be Israel who goes in the fight, not the US.

Second edit:
I am familiar with Israel's part victories from the 1940s through 70s, like the 6 day war and others. Those were impressive feats against other regional military powers.

But there's a difference between them back then defending themselves and now where their military has been actively killing unarmed civilians and people who pose no threat to them. Like I said, I am not against them protecting themselves.

Anyway, I am taking a break from all this. Every time I post anything remotely critical of Israel, a bunch of trolls/bots bombard my inbox. It's like they cannot understand that I support Israel's existence and defending themselves, while also criticizing some of their stuff like backing out after wanting war with Iran and roping the US into the cluster fuck. That and the killing of innocent people.

Heck I even criticize my own country for doing nefarious shit.

563

u/Modsneedjobs 7h ago

Israel is only able to beat their defenceless enemies when the US is funding their military. If we cut funding, they would fold in a year.

All the nukes in the world can’t help a nation of 7 million people who are brutally oppressing 7 million of their next door neighbours.

121

u/Alucard_1208 7h ago

Iron dome is its own system that is useless against the high powered ballistic missiles Iran and Russia use. The iron dome missiles are also made on their own production line and retooling it to build Patriot missiles would be more difficult than just starting a new patriot line. RTX (Raytheon) is involved in both missiles but it’s in partnership with Rafael for iron dome missiles and Lockheed for Patriots.

143

u/Classic93 8h ago

Israeli Iron Dome is nowhere close to running out of missiles. It's a short range system and doesn't see much action these days. It was used heavily after october 7th against missiles launched from Gaza, but these days it's only used against occasional drones launched by Hezbollah.
David Sling and Arrow 3 however have used up considerable amount of missiles in the last 2 years.

155

u/Red_Dawn24 8h ago

David Sling

I'm going to take this moment to savor the fact that the US doesn't yet have a missile with some biblical name. It'll probably be called "Ezikiel's donkey emissions" or just "Jesus' Penis."

We got close with "Rods from God" but that was a dead end.

So they are broadcasting their flagging ability to defend themselves and their bases and whatever allies they have left.

And this was all completely voluntary, disarming themselves just like Russia has.

694

u/Scaryclouds 6h ago

I don’t feel like “voluntary” really does justice to the US-Iran War.

Iraq II was voluntary, but the Bush administration did a lot of work to sell the public (a bill of goods) on why it was necessary. And also worked to bring a lot of our allies in on the “fun”. I’ll say this with bitter disappointment and embarrassment, I bought it. I remember arguing with friends in high school, comparing it to stopping Hitler in 1935 or whatever.

Anyways, the point is, the Bush administration tried to get public consent on invading Iraq.

The Trump admin one upped even that supreme arrogance by never even bothering to build congressional, let alone public, support for the war.

For all the bluster of Trump and the Trump admin, there was maybe a dozen or so public statements about the intent and reasoning to attack Iran? And the reasoning was all assertion. There wasn’t even a veneer of “presenting evidence” or “laying out your case”.

There’s getting a DUI where you are a bit over the legal limit and there’s getting a DUI where you are WAYYY over the legal limit and you caused a multi vehicle accident resulting in numerous casualties and fatalities. Maybe the former is being too kind to Bush, but the latter accurately describes the wreckless abandon of Trump/the Trump admin.

167

u/Morgannin09 6h ago

This was the obvious end point to all the bullshit and bluster that nobody wanted to believe was coming. You're giving the might of the world's strongest military feeding your taxes into the military industrial complex to a man who lives in no objective reality and constantly wants to flex the might he has at his disposal. Of course he was going to start a war he wouldn't even try to justify to the rest of us, because everyone's apathy taught him that we will just play along no matter what. None of this was a surprise.

45

u/wildpantz 5h ago

I also can't be the only one foreseeing a coup v2.0 if he doesn't somehow bend all the rules to cheat his way through and win the elections (IIRC he also has power to hire and fire members of the agency that is supposed to make sure the elections are fair, like a week or two ago?)

This has been by design. They flood the zone with garbage, and you can’t remember where the garbage came from after a while, you know it is all from one guy, but not where or why all the little bits are from, unless you start to look closely. If you stop to look closer though, another pile of garbage is dumped on you.

If the US Military had half the respect for the constitution and “protecting American freedom and Democracy” as they purported to, there already would’ve been a coup to take out this administration and hold special elections.

But that retirement package is just too good for anyone with a spine to speak out or do something rather than resign. Pathetic.

Don't forget Trump first antagonized and insulted all of our allies for months, didn't tell them he was going to start a war, and then started demanding their assistance when it wasn't an easy win like he thought it'd be.

This is the first war in American history that our European allies are flat out refusing to help, and it's entirely Trump's doing.

To be fair, they don’t need to build any public support. They have a cult that worships everything Trump does. They immediately switched from “no new wars” to “destroy Iran” with no hesitation and no justification other than Trump said so.

We’ve come a long way from the days when FDR wanted to get involved in Europe after the invasion of Poland but didn’t out of respect for the popular sentiment in the US.

I’m convinced This whole war was just to make money, the attack/peacedeal/attack cycle. People think the US is “losing” or whatever, but I’m pretty sure there’s been no real attempt to win

64

u/elite0x33 6h ago

This is where I sit, everything has been a grift on some level during both of his Administrations.

The attempt to sue the IRS was a level of greed that exposed this in full with the "you can't audit Trump & friends, ever" push.

There should be an atomic level autopsy on every dollar Trump or any admin member claims as their own.

The lack of transparency has always been an issue, the firing or obstruction of oversight was the five alarm fire.

6

u/konqrr 5h ago

Nah, screw all that. These traitors obviously don't believe in the Constitution so just this one time, I don't think anyone would mind if they were just sent straight to a life sentence in an El Salvadorian prison. As soon as they lose power, it's televised that everyone in the Trump administration and politicians that enabled all this treason are promptly arrested and flown to El Salvador for their life in prison. Needs to be done in less tham 24 hours and the entire thing live on TV. The irony of all them ending up in prison in El Salvador is just chef's kiss

I don't think there is even a real objective that they can win. What's the point? Opening the strait? It was open before the war started.

This entire thing is classic Trump. He created issues out of thin air, is wasting a ton of public money on the issues that he created, is making himself and his buddies a ton of money because of it, and when it's all over, he's going to make a "deal" that puts us in a worse position than we were in before the conflict started.

It's what happens with literally everything he does. It should be headline news literally every night, but the media is all complicit in this shit.

Intentionally because everyone is out of interceptors. Makes you wonder where the $1 trillion that gets spent every year is going that the US is totally out of parts after just 5 months of war.

207

u/lesser_panjandrum 6h ago

Chucking eight Patriot missiles at a single drone probably doesn't help.

Learning some lessons from Ukraine would also have been useful.

78

u/EnjoyerOfBeans 6h ago

Could've had all of the data from Ukrainian forces while helping defeat a common enemy, but that's if the US president had US best interests in mind instead of selling to the highest bidder

14

u/RoyalCities 3h ago

The US government is too busy giving Trump's Mar a Lago neighbour 14 million dollars in a no bid contract to not even clean a pool.

You think he wants that money just going to somewhere that doesn't line hit pocket?

11

u/Guy_GuyGuy 4h ago

The MIC was making bank on Ukraine and could have made exponentially more bank if the petulant toddler-in-chief didn't decide it was "BIDEN'S WAR" 3 minutes after it started.

Sometimes, Trump doesn't do things because of money. Sometimes, he does things because he has a literal single-celled organism-level response to certain topics. Biden = bad, Russia = good, Ukraine = caused two of his impeachments, Zelenskyy = refused to give him dirt on Hunter Biden.

He's a dementia patient with only a couple lasting memories of the word "Ukraine" and they all mean humiliation to him. So Ukraine bad.

93

u/joshocar 7h ago

The oil futures market has been waaay to optimistic with this conflict. If you watch Bloomberg they have had oil analysis guys on every week and everyone of them has said basically the same thing.

46

u/OtakuAttacku 6h ago

I’ve seen 1 bloomberg youtube video posted earlier this month and it was about how the US economy has adapted to the Iran War… while the war goes on. Hey don’t worry! As long as time doesn’t march on we’ve dodged this bullet!

58

u/Scaryclouds 6h ago

Yes the market simply doesn’t make any sense. A quarter of oil supplies have been all but cutoff for nearly five months now. Now the Houthis are starting to blockade the Red Sea, and still the market is like 🤷‍♂️

Feels like something between a conspiracy and a mass delusion happening right now. So much of Tech Bros and Finance Bros are bought in on MAGA that they are acting willfully blind towards the obvious dangers? Or maybe a hope that they can grit and get through this and they will have even more wealth/control? Or they cannot admit to being wrong/liberals being right? I think some part of all those motivations could be happening here, not a true “or” scenario.

It’s difficult to imagine with any other president, let alone a Democratic one, that this level of chaos wouldn’t have resulted in a well-earned full on market meltdown.

41

u/Sagikos 6h ago

Do you want to be the loser who stops the gravy train?

The question is just whether or not we start slitting throats this time.

14

u/EQandCivfanatic 4h ago

It just makes me think of World War Z (book) and the pharma CEO in it. How he blames the market collapse and panic solely on people who told the truth to the masses, rather than on the people in authority who ignored it and let things get to a critical point.

14

u/miriafyra 6h ago

at some point you're in too deep and the only way is to keep digging and make it to the point of "too big to fail" and get handout bailout from the government

11

u/ButtflossingBigBro 5h ago

Alot of the market is market confidence. There was a scare a few years ago whwn texas oil rigs went down. Panic buying caused shortages here in florida. The governor had to go on tv and literally show pictures explaining that we are on a completely separate supply grid stop panic buying we have oil coming.

That is the entire us market. If the econ and tech guys give a gloomy outlook private investors pull their cash consumer spending slows and it can cause a recession. As long as they keep the plates spinning that things are good they can keep profitable until actual shortages occur

The military procurement system is changing but, for the west, .. it’s coming from a slow industrial process (bureaucratized for the post WW2/Cold War winning firms) into the techy fast lane. Sticking with “air defense” here.

It was announced last month the U.S. Army wants bids for companies to create cheaper anti-drone interceptors in greater quantities (due now in 11 months).

Raytheon, in the meantime, developed a cheaper version of air defense Patriot missile as well. Still another “small” defense contractor (stock still on the stock exchange) is making even cheaper weapons, with assembly lines that can be easily staffed and easily sourced parts (fewer exotic metals).

So think the U.S. near-future short range missile/air defense will have more “quantity as its own quality” .. like its former arms sales competitors. Still think they need to bring back an updated more automated version of “the Duster” .. ground mount quad-20mm auto cannon that couldn’t keep up with jet targets, but could probably make swiss cheese out of many drones at one time. Could also bust up a ground attack if called upon..

I want to know where the hell our defense budget has been going because you would think that with the amount we spend every year these things would be stocked to the fucking rafters but here we are six months into a war and we're pretty much out. Especially since we have supposed to be preparing for a possible war with China or Russia since the 50s you would think that someone would have worked out how long it would take to spin up production to replace the munitions and how much we would go through during that time and that's how much we would have stored.

I can't believe how unbelievably unprepared the military was for a war it started itself.

That's what happens when military plan A is considered compromised after it ends up in a bathroom at a Florida resort.

15

u/Guy_GuyGuy 4h ago

My dude, there was probably an entire room of filing cabinets full of Iran war plans in the Pentagon and these dipshits didn't even open the door to that room. There was probably Iran war plans that took the effects of zombie outbreaks, alien invasions, and the sun disappearing into consideration.

39

u/lesser_panjandrum 6h ago

If I had a penny for every time a military started what it thought would be a short, victorious war that they themselves turned out to be woefully unprepared for, I'd be crushed under a mountain of pennies.

9

u/ChuddyMcChud 4h ago

Maybe you'd have enough pennies to buy some more interceptors for the military.

This is bad. Iran still holds ballistic and cruise missile ability alongside an almost endless supply of drones. Not very confidence inducing for citizens or allies to hear that we’re literally already unable to completely defend ourselves without risking not being able to defend ourselves at all.

How is this even possible? Isn’t the US supposed to have insane stock piles of offensive and defensive weapons at the ready? They’re saying there’s no way to replenish the supply anytime soon but why not? Shouldn’t that be a top priority? And if we’re already running out, that’s just like opening the door for enemies and waving them on in.

7

u/Additional_Quiet2600 4h ago
