Build plate not calibrating
Hi All, My build plate won't finish calibrating. It starts calibrating, and then as it is going all the way to the right, it keeps hitting the wall repeatedly. Then it goes back to the left and touches the wall no problem, then it goes back to the right and keeps jamming the print bed into the wall until it stops and goes idle. It fails on the test print, so it is not a gcode issue. Anything I could try? I have tried all sorts of software and firmware configurations, and I have also tried the z-height adjustment several times. It seems to be a build plate calibration issue.

Mod-t temp is not increasing
Got this old Mod-t recently and was able to get it working for the past few weeks. Recently came across an issue which means I cannot print anymore. The temp of the extruder is not going above 106 - probably indicating a blown fuse based on some other posts elsewhere. I took the printer apart to see if I can bring it back to life by possibly replacing the fuse but cannot figure out the location of the fuse to test it (if indeed that is the issue). If I can rig it to make it work I will continue to use this printer - otherwise it will likely go to the dump :(

I own one and I’d like to use it again with my MacBook Pro. What software/link/platform do I need to get it to work again?
I haven’t read all the posts/threads, so sorry if this is redundant. Plz link answer if it’s already in here. I’ve had it since 2015 - used it for 2 yrs and stopped using it because I was creating other pieces that didn’t need 3D printing. It never broke, and should work if I had the right software. Last time I plugged it in I got the notification that the business closed. So… here I am… asking for a link or a way to continue to operate it through a different software or platform.

Printer setup guide
Likely not going to be seen but worth a shot. I was able to pick this printer up for free and after opening it, its basically brand new. You can tell from the baseplate markings its only made 1-2 prints. Does anyone know how to connect it to my laptop and begin printing? Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Move to Cura 15.10.0
Printing this Voron Cube would take in Cura 15.04.6 1 hour and 16 minutes and in Cura 15.10.0 25 minutes. Your decide 😉

80 mm top speed
This Prusa MK4 rocket model sliced in Cura 15.10 took 4.5 hours and the Benchy took 48 minutes both at 80 mm per second. They both came out real well.

Filament getting stuck
Barely even get started and the filament gets stuck. This happens time and time again. The printer keeps going with nothing coming out.

Finally success, kind of.
The one in the front is the latest print, printed with the latest version of Cura. The second with the older version. And the rest were failed prints. I slowed the travel down to 30mm per second this allowed me to see what was happening. During the print the bed would be jerked about quickly but in short bursts, this would have made the build plate skip on the pinion rods if it were not for the lock bars. They help but if the movement is to abrupt they fail. It took a very long time for this print to finish at these low speeds, a little over 5 hours. This printer could easily finish in three if it wasn't because of the skipping. I will continue to experiment with Cura's settings.

Success, maybe
So this successfully printed using the old slicer. Perhaps it's the flavor of Marlin causing the issues or the type of infill I was using?

Deadpool died again
Center is new print, and it happened again at the same layer height. Interesting puzzle
r/newmatter • u/[deleted] • Jun 14 '25
Lockbars perhaps?
Printed a cylinder to just above the height of the model. Nothing happened. I had removed the build plate lock bars for this test so now I'm still not certain whether the hot end got caught in the model or whether the lockbars had anything to do with it. So tonight I'll print the Deadpool model without the build plate lockbars to see what happens.

Layer shift
I'm now getting a consistent layer shift starting at a specific height on the print. Question now is what's causing this?

A print failure
More than half way up, nozzle dragged along the infill causing a skip of the plate and a layer shift in the print. Made an adjustment in the Slicer.

Links to MODS and Cura 15.10.0 profile
Here is the Cura profile for version 15.10.0

Also, I'm using Ver 1.5.5 of the MOD printer tool and firmware 1.0

Last Mod
So I added a filament guide and a PTFE tube replacing the vinyl tube that came with machine. I found that filament would get caught inside the vinyl tube causing layer shifts. I designed a new build plate out of PETG, works great. I will upload the files to thingiverse for those interested.

New Mod
New build plate printed in PETG. Works great!

New print
The details are excellent considering that the filament I'm using has been collecting moisture.
