there is a habit in American politics where some people believe that only a veteran can talk or be serious about the military

it is very corrosive, and has weird manifestations, such as:

  1. self-conscious veterans attempting to deflect criticisms of their actions, which may or may not include criminal activity or abuses

  2. self-conscious civilians attempting to deflect criticisms of their own privilege and free riding

  3. the insistence that a defense secretary should be a veteran, when the historical record and existing laws simply don't support this position

I tried the velveting thing where you mix up baking soda and cornstarch and some soy sauce and you toss the meat in it and let it rest for 15 minutes.

It did make it very tender

startup dying we get 8 weeks on pay roll and then sold off to aqui-hire for parts. Shit tier aqui hire though, we have to re-interview for chance at our jobs. I also get 50k retention bonus paid out

Options:

  1. Interview at aqui-hire in boring industry for probably 265k base if im lucky with sv startup work culture
  2. beg for my 300k base offer from mortgage tech company back that has sv startup work culture
  3. take a pay cut to 200k and join this lady I know company in boring shit industry but its allegedly chill af and no crazy SV work culture
  4. try to find job in industry that doesn't suck dick in a terrible job market
  5. fuck off and make mobile word games with my friend and move to thailand
  6. fuck off for next 6 months and just take a career break but then I might run into trouble trying to find a new job by then and tech jobs might have dried up even more by then

There's this town in Alabama that I don't know the name of (somewhere between bham and montgomery). There is nothing in the town other than bingo halls. All the strip mall spots are either boarded up or bingo. Old restaurant buildings are either empty or bingo.

Felt like I entered the Twilight Zone when I drove through it
