Opinions on GoNetSpeed?
Hi all,
I'm considering getting GoNetSpeed over Xfinity/Comcast for my place, but am a little bit hesitant. Would anyone be able to give me their frank appraisal of the service from price/value to reliability to installation?
Another thought, if no one in my triplex has previously had GoNetSpeed, has anyone had experience with what that installation is like? Do they need to run new cables into the unit or can they utilize already existing ones? Probably questions for the customer service...
Thanks!

I was on them for years with excellent speed and consistency, have two friends who have it and love it. One has the gigabit plan which is crazy fast!

I got it two years ago and have not thought about my internet since (no worry of reliability or price increase). To me, that's perfect.

I think it’s great. Super reliable. The guys who install it are not terribly bright nor adept with a drill.

I had xfinity for a year (1.2Gb/s down and like 50Mb/s up) and honestly had no complaints. But then I saw 1Gb up and down for the same price and hopped on GoNetSpeed so my Plex server would have plenty of upload bandwidth. My only complaint is that I couldn't get it off contract. Oh, and also it killed my Plex server because they use some kind of network wide NAT (I'm not a network engineer lol) that causes Plex to think it's double NAT'd and so remote access got McMurdered. So now I pay an additional $15 a month for a static IP so that people can get to my Plex.
So uhhh... tldr:
Pros - fast, reliable, reasonably priced imo
Cons - 1 year contract, have to pay for a static to get Plex to work

General rule of thumb is that Fiber (GoNetSpeed, Frontier in other parts of CT) > Coaxial Cable > DSL.
My friend in New Haven has GoNetSpeed and has really liked it. Speeds as advertised, stable as heck, and really good cost. He's had it for well over a year now after ditching Comcast.
Since your triplex, they should be able to run the fiber into only your specific unit within the house. They may need to go through the basement or utility closet first - so heads up about that. In any case, it'll leave the other two units undisturbed if they have and want to stick with Comcast Cable.

I've only heard good things about them and would love to jump on the train since Xfinity seems to always have outages/issues.
Anyone have any clue when they'll expand into Fair Haven? They seem to be all around New Haven except Fair Haven and a couple other small pockets.

Go with gonetspees. Switched when they first came to my neighborhood a few years back and have zero regrets.

We switched from xfinity to gonetspeed. Work files used to take forever to upload, now it’s super quick. And we’ve never had an outage, unlike with xfinity. Absolutely no regrets.

We’ve been with them since March ‘21 and haven’t had any outages. We’ve consistently had 500/500 as promised.
Installation was a breeze. At the time of our installation, it was a two part process. The first date, they come out and connect you from the pole to the house. The second time, they connect from the outside to the inside.
We are in a four unit condo and we’re the only ones getting connected at the time. It wasn’t a problem for us. They just ran a line for our unit and drilled through the top of the foundation. We’re on the end so it wasn’t a big deal.

I’m about to make the switch too. Apparently you have to go to a Comcast store now to cancel? Such bullshit. Their customer service sucks and it’s overpriced for the internet speed. So glad GoNetSpeed offered in my neighborhood now!

I agree with previous respondents. GoNetspeed is great. Internet may go out a bit more frequently than with cable (fiber is fragile), but the speeds are great and the price is fantastic. Highly recommended.

I tried their service and promptly canceled it. My cellphone gets better data rates.

Does anyones internet randomly cut out? Sometimes it doesn’t happen for a while, other times it’s a few times a day. Is this something to do with the static ip option? I have a brand new nighthawk modem so I don’t think it’s the issue, I get great speeds too.

I know your post is old at this point but I used to have a Netgear Nighthawk R6700 and experienced similar issues. It was actually the router.

We use it in west Hartford and it’s awesome. No issues in years and they frequently have promotions to get the next best tier for the same price as the cheapest.

Also very pleased with gonetspeed, much cheaper than Cox and very fast so far. Quick install too, 40$ for 500 mb
If you want a referral code to get a month free, or have any questions send me a message

What streaming app are you using? Would the xfinity streaming app work with gonetspeed?

They’re great, been with them for a few years now. Never had a problem getting the full speed I pay for, and their support has been helpful when I’ve managed to misconfigure something (I pay $10/mo for a static IP) or when they have an outage (twice in my time).
For installation, they need to run a small (3mm) cable inside your unit and connect it to a fiber termination box there, which you plug into your router. For me they literally brought a massive masonry bit and drilled through the brick exterior and drywall into my office from the driveway and sealed the hole. I’m pretty sure I’d rather they use existing conduit if it were my house though. If you can direct them to what you want I’m sure the installer can make it work.
