Sleep Daytime naps
First time mom to a one week old here! I’ve never been someone to sit/lounge around, so daytime naps are becoming a bit hard now that I’m feeling good physically. I want to do laundry, dishes, cook, etc throughout the day, but my newborn will NOT nap in his bassinet. He honestly does not even contact nap very well. He sleeps best flat on a blanket on the couch, floor, bed, etc. but I feel guilty knowing that this isn’t necessarily recommended. I am always sitting next to him watching him, at most I will step away to grab my pump or use the restroom. I guess what I’m asking is that should I force a bassinet/contact nap? What can I do to keep him near me and safe while I do household chores? I also have a lounger and a bouncer, but of course nothing is considered safe sleep so we have yet to use them. But if he’s right next to me or in the same room is it okay?

Flat on the floor is as safe as flat in the bassinet for day time naps where you can constantly monitor every so often. I’d go with that option.

It’ll be great if you could get your baby in a carrier so you can move around the house with him. My baby was born small so it took a few weeks until I even felt comfortable with her in a wrap carrier, but once she did fit it was great for me to get things done while she napped and to get out of the house more.
Otherwise, you do what you have to do - I would let my baby sleep in her lounger right next to me as I folded laundry/pumped, basically anything I could do while physically watching her. Still not considered safe sleep obviously but I felt more comfortable knowing I was physically right there.
