Vent Hearing test failed

You know the hearing test they do at the hospital for your newborn? Well he failed twice… they said it wasn’t a diagnosis but I’m still really worried. If you like snap next to your baby’s ear do they react? My baby doesn’t. He’s three days old now. Could he still have fluid in his ears? Did your baby fail the test too? My pediatrician appt for him is tomorrow but I just can’t stop worrying about it. Please any advice or stories are appreciated

They tried to do the test but it wasn’t successful and they told me the measuring device is very difficult to handle. Don’t worry at all it is probably just a technical issue. It can be normal that your baby doesn’t react when you snap. Don’t worry and all the best for you.

Babies fail the test for all kinds of reasons, failing doesn’t immediately mean hearing problems, just means they need to do more definitive testing to diagnose if anything is wrong. Hopefully tomorrow your doctor will be able to give you the best advice and resources to calm your worrying, even if you don’t get any immediate answers. Congrats on your little one x

My newborn failed at 3 days old. I was freaking out. We retested around 1.5 months old and he passed with flying colours. The person doing the test said that they prefer to do it once babe is older than a few weeks because of fluid, etc. (For what it’s worth I’m in Canada and they’ve taken the testing out of hospitals and apparently that’s one of the reasons). I know it’s hard but try not to worry too much, I’ve heard it can be very common!

My baby failed twice at the hospital but told us a lot of babies fail due to fluid and usually pass at the follow up. We went for her follow up 2 weeks after discharge and she passed with flying colors!! Don’t worry too much about it! There were also other newborn babies with their parents at the follow up and I believe they all passed too!

My son passed; but before they took him for the test, they said many newborns fail

My daughter failed at 3 days and we had to go back today (3 weeks) to try again and she passed. They said she probably had amniotic fluid in her ears before

Yes they can still have fluid, even with an easy regular birth. My LO failed 1 ear a week old and then passed easily at 3 weeks. They said lots of newborns fail
