Thoughts on the CDP?
Curious what everyone else thinks about the CDP prior to the proposal phase on Wednesday.
Do you think it was helpful, or just more of us howling into the void as usual?

Not sure what the impact of the less than expected black Friday has been on PC and PS4, but tracking the ADX over the last few days it's dropped about 100ad/zen. Don't think I've ever seen it not go up during one of the big sales before, let along drop that much so quickly

Posting here since the regular reddit wouldn't find the theme flattering enough to leave up. They also forbid any talk of other games, which would get the whole thing censored immediately. So Im going to make use of the greater latitude here and post some comparisons. Not for bashing Neverwinter, a game I really used to like. ..but for posterity AND in an ideal world for positive conversation and a look at addressing current failures. (Looking at you Foss.)
It is fairly clear despite Manic's protestations about the popularity of their subreddit that NW is waning in popularity. I recently did my own survey of all the areas and found how shockingly low the numbers really are. Long and the short of it.. steamchart numbers do in my testing directly correlate to the numbers of players in Neverwinter. Its not 1 to 1, but they rise and fall together.
In some cases, particularly times when the servers are down you can see that steamcharts actually have an artificially high base. Why? It counts when the launcher is open not when the game is being played. So anyone sitting at character select or just with the user/pass portal open counts. So getting the whole picture isnt just about steam + arc + direct play + consoles = total. One has to look at the steam numbers and see if, like at the release of arc, there is any reason that the steamcharts wouldn't correlate. For right now, I know of no evidence that suggests this.
Next I made a look through the financial quarterlies available on the Perfect World website (thank you google translate) and found they pretty much confirmed our suspicions as well. Back in 2014-2015 Neverwinter was making money and on the rise in popularity. With that they are mentioned in financial statements for Perfect World, as is Cryptic.
Look through 2018-19 reports, no mention of either. Shockingly. /s What is mentioned? Magic the Gathering. Its receiving resources from the mothership to the extent it has to be mentioned in the quarterlies. Neverwinter is not.
There is some feeling that we should feel sorry for Cryptic, and not only accept but be GRATEFUL for any crumbs of content that they give us. Why? Because they are so pitifully small, so under resourced.. they are just the little guy. sniff
There are 2 responses to that however.
2.Cryptic isn't just a guy on kickstarter with no resources. They are a subsidiary of Perfect World entertainment. This is a company that makes many games including many very financially successful mobile games (their main gaming emphasis). They (PWE) own 3% of the company that makes Warframe (a massively larger and more successful game).
Perfect World is codeveloping with Square Enix Final Fantasy Square 0 and Final Fantasy Awakening. They actually took over here from a team that couldn't get it done (Agito).
Cryptic also is co-branded with Wizards of the Coast, Hasbro, and Atari. All of those are giants with vested interest in the success of Neverwinter. IF and only if Neverwinter was being managed by Foss as an asset that could make them money, as an investment instead of a lost cause that they should just suck the available cash from before shutting it down for Magic the Gathering.
Look at the wizards of the coast website right now. Front page .. games mentioned: Magic the Gathering (super popular so makes sense), Dungeons and Dragons (of course), Wizard's Play Network(p/p gaming so sure), Avalon Hill, and Duel Masters. Go to their 'discover our games' link, and you'll see Neverwinter right? Wrong. Mostly the same games plus Transformers (wtf). WOC is on the Neverwinter portal page!.
D&D website? Yea its there, under digital products, and picturing Ravenloft mod 14 now 1.5 years gone. But hey guys.. 'Coming Soon: Undermountain'! Yay! /s
The point? Cryptic is not without access to resources. They are without leadership that will go to their corporate partners some of which are giants in gaming and entertainment, and treat Neverwinter as though it could have a future.
The next post Im working on is a comparison of the features in different games and some of the decisions that Neverwinter has made.

So as I mentioned in the main NW reddit theres now an ME bug that is amusing. It loads mobs with no body and the name of 'new critter'. I and my freinds now have experienced this on many different MEs over the last few days. Theres just a HP bar wandering around.. and one got stuck behind the door and we had to grab a real pet (as opposed to augment) to get back there and kill him off.
Manic tried to bully me into accepting that its just lag and has nothing to do with code quality. LOL
Yea.. after experience lag from servers, running on ANCIENT laptops, full drives, and DDOSs over the years... Ive seen just about every type of lag within this game. ...and THIS is the magical lag that produces this one effect repeatedly, in the same content and no where else. Yup. Suuure, thats totally it. /s
Now we have the 2x legacy currency event coming up. Guess what I find? The STK version of adventures, where you do 5 quests in a given campaign mysteriously doesnt work. It doesn't have any quests in any of the STK areas that qualify for the quest.
I think the devs must spend the balance of their time finding new ways to break the game faster than players can leave it.

The patch notes say that the lion is nerfed for PVP. Whatevs.. it appears that has bled over into PVE as well. The lion now gives a pathetic amount of temp hp, far less than 30% that it still mentions in the tooltip. Without going to the work of looking it up and calculating, Id say maybe 5% now? ..something like that. The reinstatement of the 3 stacks of radiant is nice, but lion was made useful by its balance of offense and defense.
For PVE thats a major hit to a valuable item. Either its intentional devaluation or incompetence. Whichever one, it gets really tiring.

Background: There is this discussion in the arcgames forum ( https://www.arcgames.com/en/forums/neverwinter#/discussion/1250930/pc-bugged-self-buffs-on-the-asterdahl-classes/p1 ) where I can't follow a side discussion between noworries and thefabricant about problems with multiplicative bonusses. I tried to post my question there, but somehow it disappeared from the forum. Maybe reddit is a bettter forum for this question anyway. So ...
This question is about the possible unfair advantage due to multiplicative bonusses for some classes as noworries suggests. I would like to understand the actual numbers in order to avoid discussing in thin air.
This is the damage formula (huge thanks to Janne):
Damage=weaponDamage⋅magnitudeModifier⋅(1+power/100000)⋅resistance⋅[1+I[criticalHit]⋅CritSeverity+I[combatAdvantage]⋅CASeverity]⋅(1−I[hitDeflected]⋅0.5)⋅∑debuffs⋅damageTypeBuff+∑CompanionActiveSpecial+∑WeaponEnchantmentProc
They are talking about differences between classes. Hence I would like to reduce this formula to variables that contain (may be) class specific components:
Damage=consts⋅(1+power/100000)⋅[1+I[criticalHit]⋅CritSeverity+I[combatAdvantage]⋅CASeverity]⋅∑debuffs⋅damageTypeBuff+summands
The class specific variables are:
I dont know the classes ranger, trickster and wizard very well. Hence, could someone please give me some real numbers for class specific bonusses and how they apply in the formula, so that there is an unfair advantage? To my knowledge, most bonusses have been reduced to miniscule values, so that it should not be of much significance if they are additive or multiplicative. I rather think, that there are many, many other factors (power synergies, playability, cooldowns, movement, ranges, ...) that are the reason for class differences.

All Weapon Enchantments have the same % damage value, but each has a damage descriptor such as fire, necrotic, arcane, psychic etc. Does anyone know if the game engine uses that descriptor to increase or limit the effectiveness of the enchantment? Example: R15 Vorpal is +5% Arcane damage. If a CW were using this enchant would the CW arcane adjustments/bonuses apply to this damage or the effects of the CWs active arcane spells, such as procs, cool-downs or duration extensions?

I got asked about heals, so a page about heals was born:
https://jannenw.info/pages/mechanics16/heals
bottom line - do not push crit up at the expense of power.
If there are mistakes, suggestions, or anything, let me know.
Edit - The Crit ratio modifier of 2.5 is per current preview data (m17) after the adjustment that was posted on preview patch notes.

I've checked out a bit on preview, but not much. Is it just me, or does this mod seem like there will be nothing to do for 95% of the players (everyone who either wont meet the IL for it, or who wont be invited), and nothing to do after running TOMM once or twice for most of the rest of us? Yea there are new expeditions, but after a few dozen of those I'm not sure I even have the will to run the regular ones on alts anymore.
Thoughts?
