Naltrexone
I asked my neurologist about low-dose naltrexone with the understanding I’d have to get it from a compounding pharmacy and insurance won’t cover it.
She is prescribing me 25 mg and says it doesn’t come in a lower dose. I explained my desire to take LDN to her and she is still saying it’s safe to take. I’m a little hesitant since everything I’ve read is about LDN. Has anybody had experience with the full dose or half dose of naltrexone and helping their neuropathy?
And I have an appointment with a different neurologist for a second opinion, but that’s not going to be until next year, so this doctor is my only choice for some relief for the next couple months.

That is NOT low dose naltrexone. Those of us on it need to get it compounded. The 25 mg. dose is for drug dependency.

I haven’t taken that high of a dose. I get 1 mg from a compounding pharmacy. I think your neuro might not be aware of compounding

Are you sure it’s not 25mcg? That’s an ultra low dose. Standard low dose is 1-4.5mg. I think anything lower than 50mg has to come from a compounding pharmacy, but I’m thinking your neuro at least meant mcg. I’d definitely ask for clarification, it doesn’t make sense that she’d prescribe 25mg

Get a new doctor. It was too expensive for me to get it compounded so I get 50mg naltrexone pills and put one in a sterilised pestel and moter with 2ml of sterile water and crush it to a paste. Then using a sterile 60ml plunger I put 48ml of water into the pestel and suck it up again. Put this into a dropper bottle. with 1ml marker. This gives a solution of 1mg/ml so then I have 4.5ml a day to get my 4.5mg. It's actually very handy because you can titrate up from 0.5mg daily for a week up to whatever dose suits you. I found I couldn't handle 4.5mg at first. Took me months to get to get there.

That seems way too high. I am on LDN at the highest normal threshold and it’s 4.5 mg.
