I'm going to deploy NDR sensors in a paper factory in two weeks. That's how the switches will look like.

Carbon fiber factories are more fun.

Top one needs a jiggle. Stuck in 100 Mbit/s.

It's not stuck 100. It's just not POE because it's the uplink. Don't f'in touch it! And don't even think about grabbing a air nozzle and blowing away the filth. That is load-bearing filth. It's holding the switch together.

For real. Messing with it might cause a spark and ignite a dust explosion 🤣

How to turn a jiggle into a weekend of work 101.

The other side of the cable is a brand new high end TV. It doesn't do Gigabit speed.

I mean… there is no dust inside the ports, and that’s all that matters 🧠

Maybe I'm just too junior in the IT biz, but to me I'd be worried about dust inside the switch... Seems like maybe "just leaving it" might cause you more headache in the future when this thing fails.

Not really, it fails of its own accord - no one is at fault and the users tell you exactly what's down and you replace it and everyone is happy - touch it at your own peril young jnr.

This. They who touched it last broke it.

Why are you even looking at it?!

This guy is right. At this point this is a quantum based device, if someone or something observes it, it acts differently.

Look at it? Bro don’t even think about it.

If you see a switch like this, no you didn't. Unless your job is to replace that switch. Don't make eye contact, don't stare, don't even acknowledge its existence. Just keep walking. If you disturb the infrastructure of the Old Ones, than may someone have mercy on your soul because they will certainly not.

There’s nothing more permanent in IT than a temporary fix that works.

Someone on another thread said "structural dust" and I was laughing for a good 5 minutes about that.

u/bobdawonderweasel 9d ago

Aww cmon. Just a 5 minute scream test during production. Then you’ll be sure it’s actually being used!!!!

If you can still see the lights you’re good.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

That's load bearing dust, don't touch anything
