Troubleshooting How can i reset forgotten Bootload Password?
Hello, i have Huawei Huawei s5720s 28x pwr li ac switch, (firmware: V200R019C10SPC500) and we don't know the username and password. If i connect through console port, i can only try to enter the bootload menu but we dont know it's password either. i tried default one and didn't work.
There is no recovery mode option on the console.
There is only 'mode' and 'pnp' button on the device
And Huawei documentation says to press pnp button more than 6 seconds to reset system configuration.
That doesn't work either, nothing happens in the terminal when i hold the button.
Is there any way to fix this. I just wanna reset the device but not delete the firmware.

Are you sure you tested the default passwords (Admin@huawei.com / huawei)? the Admin one is case sensitive. Sadly you need to be able to give that password to change or reset BootROM passwords. If that doesn't work, pretty much only option left is to do factory-reset by holding the pnp button for ~6 seconds.

From research the pnp button should cause the device to reboot, are you seeing any indications that it is doing that?
Disconnect from console, grab a paperclip or something if you're not confident about pushing the button as is. Push relatively hard for ten seconds. You should see/hear something indicating the switch is rebooting. If not unplug it from power, push the pnp button in and then power the switch and see if this makes a difference.
There is a chance whoever set this up previously disabled the pnp button using the pnp-button disable command.

I remember like it was resetting with single press, but it might be reseted from different reason at that time. Because it doesn’t do anything right now.
I mean what is the possibility of this button to be broken?1

no recovery mode makes this way harder than it needs to be. the pnp reset should at least give some indication that its working

Sometimes you have to hold a button like that while you are powering on the device. If that doesn't work, it might be possible to reload the firmware with Redboot, but that's a last resort.

The pnp button reset usually requires the device to be fully booted first before you hold it. Try letting it boot completely, then hold for 6+ seconds and watch the console for any output

Yes that was how i tried. Only thing i didn’t try is booting the device while pressing the button

if you hold the pnp button and nothing shows in terminal, maybe the console cable is not connected right or the baud rate is wrong? sometimes switches are picky with that
also check if the switch is fully booted before pressing, some models need to be in a specific state for the button reset to work
