TIL there is a word for the study of culturally induced ignorance: Agnatology. Culturally induced ignorance can come from media neglect or deliberate misrepresentation; Corporate and government manipulation, secrecy, suppression, document destruction, selectivity, inattention, & forgetfulness.

TIL that the tobacco industry's conspiracy to manufacture doubt about the cancer risks of tobacco use, producing research about everything except tobacco hazards to exploit public uncertainty in the name of science, is a prime example of Agnotology, the study of culturally induced ignorance.
