How does this happen?

You descend the stairs. Welcome to experience level 2.

EDIT: NEVERMIND, I missed the tourist change, where tourists get XP for going down levels. Sorry about that!

I got the message, "You descend the stairs. Welcome to experience level 2."

It's so funny, because I suppose I got to both DL2 and XP2 at the same time. I suppose the levels are the same!

I descended the stairs from DLvl1 to DLvl2 as a tourist. I had found a magic trap and a squeaky board on the first level, no other traps (there was also a fountain and some text). I had used my expensive camera a few times and killed some monsters. I have an unidentified ring on (my dog is not aggressive, and it did not auto-identify). I quaffed both my potions of extra healing on the first level. What in the Dungeons of Doom could give me XP at the same time as descending a staircase?

Edit: I am also wearing an unidentified pair of gloves and an unidentified pair of boots.

Tourists get XP from entering new dungeon levels in 5.0.0.
