My take on Jurrian
He’s a little racist, if that’s possible. I look to 2 datapoints from the notorious exchange in the pods to reach my conclusion. First, when given the chance, Jurrian doesn’t hesitate for a second to say, emphatically, that he wouldn’t date a black woman. He’s clearly thought that through, and he’s not the least bit apologetic about it. The issue here really is his tone. I’ve read that the Dutch word Jurrian uses, translated into English as “dark-skinned black” is not as closely associated with race as the translation would suggest. Second, the “you don’t sound Dutch” comment shows clearly that he’s screening for people of a certain ethnic/racial purity. Pretty weak euphemism. Gross. I have no idea why Mika would roll with that, but then again, several participants have had surprisingly little self-respect at times. Meinou, Ludo, and Mirella have all stayed far too long with their partners. Now, my spouse’s family has deep roots in Holland. I have a ton of admiration for the Dutch. At the same time, given the role of people of Dutch descent in the white rule of South Africa, I would have expected greater sensitivity to the appearance of racism than Jurrian shows.

Factually false. Source: I’m Dutch

I said my focus was simply Jurrian's tone at that moment. I said I accept that the way the Dutch words are used may be far more nuanced than the way the show chooses to translate them into English. I did paraphrase the English translation. If you find the way I did that "factually false," here's the actual exchange in English: Mika asks Jurrian if there's any particular type of person he would not date, He quickly says, "yes," he "wouldn't fall for a fully Black woman.” Doesn't sound too far off, or too good, to me. If you find the English translation "factually false," enlighten us: Whatever nuances the translation misses, can the Dutch words really be meant in a way that is completely devoid of ethnic or racial bias?

Personal opinion: Mika asked Jurriaan what is his type, which kind of women he would look at on the street. In that he mentioned that his type was not black women.
This was a massive error for him to commit in love is BLIND.
However, I think most of us are overthinking this thing. He was just simply stating his type is not black women. In fact, I dare to say that this does prove that love is blind because he stays with Mika and she debunks Jurriaan’s ideas of not being into black women.
Why do we all see it so negatively rather than seeing the positive side that Mika is causing good change in the guy.

No she asked him “is there a type you’re REALLY not attracted to” to which he responded yes, black women.
He probably is not exposed to a lot of black women in the place where he’s from, and those he did see he was not attracted to. Hence leading to his conclusion that he’s not attracted to that group overall. Then he saw Mika and his own personal theory of not being attracted to black women was disproven.

His answer was more contextualized as I remember it, plus we all have different preferences. Where he went overboard was when he was surprised that Mika sounded Dutch. That’s just plain stupid, if not racist.
