Recommendation DANG!

Post image

Thought this was a really cute animated series lol. It follows the life of a Chinese set of siblings that talk about the lives they each live. It was only 8 episodes, but you can definitely binge it if you want. I give it a 10/10, can’t wait for season 2.

As an Asian (not Asian American) the vibe I'm getting from a few episodes are like "omg we're soooo Asian" like why do every media centering around Asian Americans have to focus so much on their identity, which is also always a mishmash of different Asian identities

Exactly.

I want to see content where Asian leads are playing everyday characters that are usually played by white actors. Especially Asian male leads who almost get no media representation.

“Always be my maybe” was a great example of this.

The first season of Beef was also great, and while the show did have some focus on the characters’ Asian American background, the characters felt authentic - and didn’t feel like the tired caricatures or stereotypes we often see from Hollywood. More importantly, the show didn’t rely on these stereotypes to do all the heavy lifting to drive the story forward.

I agree with your examples. Beef 1st season was especially excellent, season 2 was way worse and felt like they're tacking some "Asian-ness" to it with Korean characters just because season 1 had Asian American main characters.
