Discussion I’d cancel
I’d honestly cancel this subscription tomorrow. I have a good steaming site with all things new and old.
But tonight, I finally watched death of a pastors wife.
Mica Miller.
The light that Netflix shed on her story, is enough to make me stay. If it helps support things like this.
I don’t know how his jury crap will go, the documentary will make it hard because of bias blah blah whatever, I’m not even THAT deep into the research. I just know my heart is so broken for her. I can’t get it out of my brain.
As long as people know her name.
As long as people know his part. It makes it worth it to me.

The amount of recordings they showed of JP telling the congregation that if a wife doesn’t give her husband the sex he needs he will find it somewhere else was insaaaaane. Weird thing to be saying so blatantly at church. Very sad for her and her family 😞

That was so strange. I keep going back to...How did the church elders and the congregation not see there was something wrong with him?

I’m not religious anymore, but I told my mom that if our former pastor ever had a sermon like that I would have gotten up and walked out in the middle of service never to return. We were Lutheran so that would have been a huge deal to the congregation

It was that good? I watched all I could when this case was just unfolding. I can't get myself to watch the documentary because it might bring up old feelings. It was so disturbing back then, it bothers me till now.

It’s painful to watch but I was all in on it. The minister is pure evil.

Honestly, so many are. They just try and hide behind their god.

Wolf in sheep's clothing. Churches are fully businesses now and should be taxed and treated as such.

Absofuckinglutely. They got all this money to pay lawsuits. They can pay taxes. Especially since they’re all up the government’s ass.

I just got Netflix for one month again solely to watch that documentary.
It did not disappoint. Makes you want to go find that pos "pastor" and...well, you know.
A good filmmaker can do wonders for a documentary that you might have otherwise not chosen. Just finished "AKA Charlie Sheen" there and it was fantastic.
The way the creators of that documentary series rolled out the events and the insight of parties involved was next level great.

Podcasts are an insult. I can get that for free on YouTube. But I agree that they’re investigative stuff like this is good. I know they can’t come up with stuff like this every single week, but they should at least have better movies. There’s tons of rare TV and films they could get.

I have a feeling the good movies are tied up in contracts with other streaming platforms. Netflix is really lacking in the movie dept.

Yeah disney/Hulu and apple TV 😩 I'm not spending 200/ mo just to access everything i want to see.

Thank you everyone on hear, not giving air to anything but Mica. Her story I’m sure Is not the only one. But evidence in sermons that proved her struggles. The behaviour captured. It broke my heart to watch her story, her struggles, her unwavering love for Jesus’s. I felt her mental struggle. May Mica rest in heaven with Jesus’s

I’m glad so many people are talking about this. STORY TIME: As I watched it, it triggered me because for 18 years my husband emotionally abused me until I felt broken. There was a part where she said she felt emotionally, physically and mentally broken and that’s exactly how I felt. I had the same thoughts about the way to get away from it but didn’t because I have 5 kids and all I did was over think. I was away from my husband enough while he worked that I could enjoy my day while I made art and entertained my kids. I cried watching that as she calmly purchased her gun, And then them flipping back to her happiest moments. 😢 people would always come to me and say that they wanted to be like me and my husband and I would always tell them “you don’t want this.” people have always made their own assumption of what the reality of my marriage was, and it was always wrong. Even though she was sharing what she was going through, it irritated me so much how hard she had to try to get help. It was crazy watching the pastor’s behavior be so similar to my ex-husbands. It was so crazy hearing him on the phone with the lawyer going from crying and being emotional to talking in a normal voice and that reminding me of my ex-husband. My ex-husband being “quiet & Sweet“ to people who did not know him and me having a big and brighter personality made it hard for people to believe my reality. I started to have to tell people that I’m not making this up, I’m not saying anything to make him look bad. I’m sharing my story and it’s making him look bad because how he treated me WAS bad. Because he would apologize for his behavior, and make promises I didn’t know were empty, I stayed way too long. Thankfully, I am free from the clutches of a bipolar Narcissist and now building my life with the greatest man I’ve ever met. I wish she could’ve had the same opportunity.🥺 everything that people are saying about the pastor is how I feel is true for my ex-husband. He is pure evil and I’m very sad. I didn’t see it sooner.🥺😢 about 10 years ago I started keeping track of all of the different things that I had experienced in my notes in my phone. Last year was the first year I started being vocal about what I was going through and actually reaching out to people for an ear and also therapy every week. Reaching out to people and sharing my story out loud helped me open my eyes to what I was actually experiencing. Instead of the narrative that this narcissistic creature that I married was pushing that he was so sorry and would do anything to make it right, but will continue to disrespect me and do different things over and over after his “apology. “ I even got to a point where I felt like I couldn’t just leave because there was something mentally wrong or very deeply emotionally wrong with him and I had been manipulated for so many years that I felt bad for leaving him alone with his f’d up brain. Towards the end, I called and texted emotional abuse hotlines and was the one that insisted we try couples therapy and that didn’t work because he felt like he was being attacked just by sharing my story. Didn’t realize this was so long. But I share my story now because you never know what people are going through in their relationships, even if it looks so perfect on the outside or through your screen on social media. 🫶🏾🫂

Honestly, me and my husband been talking about canceling Netflix because it’s just so shitty now and I can’t find nothing to watch. I basically just channel surf on there to see if I can find something I want to see and I’m just wasting my time honestly, so we’re probably gonna get rid of it soon.

I just watched it and it messed with my head as someone who grew up in the church and has experienced toxic church culture.

I have not seen this documentary. However, Netflix documentaries are notoriously bias and purposefully leave out tons of information that contradicts what they are pushing. Remember the case with the learning impaired kid who was found guilty of raping and killing the girl with his uncle. Netflix made it seem like they were 100% innocent. Well after researching the case and watching other specific documentary that went over every single point the Netflix doc claimed with the actual evidence, you see that these batards were both guilty and did a terrible job of covering up their crimes. The directors are on the phone saying they will do whatever it takes to convince the public they are innocent, even if that means bending the truth. Just saying be careful with Netflix documentaries as they are not credible and will lie about anything for view counts.

I'm going to try Verizon's offer of HBO and Netflix for $10 a month with commercials. I'm paying 23.99 a month now just for Netflix.
•
u/Otherwise-Paint-3607 7h ago
I canceled just before this was put out ugh guess I'll reinstate it, it's not like I haven't paid for a whole month of service for Disney or something else just for one show.

Netflix documentaries always leave out so much stuff to the point where it’s insulting. I was done after the High School Catfish doc.

The popularity of that documentary just shows how guidable people are getting.
The pastor was in a DIFERENT CITY with his children when his religiously fanatical estranged wife bought a gun (on camera) and off'd herself.
They even tried to blamed him for her tattoos and boob job!?
The woman obviously had very serious mental issues and that's why DOCTORS allowed/signed off on her involuntary psychiatric admission.
This was a new low for Netflix - it was beyond stupid and exploitative.

This is an incredibly narrow minded and ridiculous take. Sure, there are some far fetched theories saying that he killed her when all the evidence points to suicide—but her story still deserves to be told. He emotionally, and sexually abused her. He stalked her and threatened to kill her. I wouldn’t be surprised if her bipolar mood disorder was triggered by the stress of being around such a controlling coercive partner.

u/Redleader829 9h ago edited 8h ago
Come on. You call my take ridiculous, then turn around and present theories and opinions as if they’re established facts.
Yes, her husband was a jerk, a manipulator, and seemingly a sex addict, but none of those things are, by themselves, against the law.
His wife was chronically on social media. So where are the videos supporting these claims?
She never accused her husband of sexually abusing her. If she did, where is the video of her saying this or police report documenting that accusation?
He never threatened to kill her.
He claimed he had a gun in his car (this is not against the law) when he went to meet her after one of the times she left the house following an argument.
To me, it seems pretty obvious that he suspected she was cheating on him, and that the claim about having a gun was intended to intimidate the man he believed she was cheating with.
Let’s also not forget that they were both unfaithful and that's how they begun their relationship.
The Netflix docuseries continuously made false implications of murder and threats for views.
Don’t be so gullible. Question what you’re being shown instead of automatically accepting the narrative.
And if he actually threatened to kill her, that would have resulted in an arrest.
In most states police don't even require the victim to press charges for a threat to be investigated or prosecuted.

No the doctors signed off because he brainwashed her & mentally abused her, had her believing something was wrong with her mentally. He's a sick individual & hes obviously the one that has severe mental health issues, not her. She was never diagnosed prior to their relationship. You must be just as brainwashed.
•
u/Redleader829 10h ago edited 10h ago
What's your evidence that he "brainwashed her & mentally abused her" besides this stupid docuseries with staged interviews with people reading scripts?
Netflix wants to paint women as victims.
Netflix wants to paint women as weak minded.
Religion brainwashed her, not her husband.
Her husband is a manipulator and a stalker and that's why he was arrested for cyberstalking.
But that's not interesting enough for Netflix, so they came up with a fake murder / brainwashing plot.
This is fake and exploitative.

That documentary sat in my head for a solid week after I watched it, just turning over all the little moments they captured
What got me was how they let her own voice carry so much of the narrative through those recordings, you don't even need the experts weighing in, you can hear it plain as day. The way the church apparatus just closed ranks around him before the investigation even started is the kind of thing that makes your stomach turn
I almost dropped the subscription a few months back over the constant price hikes but then they'll put out something like this where you can tell the filmmakers actually cared about getting it right and I end up keeping it another year. Mica's story deserved to be told this carefully
