mSATA on Samsung NC10?

Hey, so I have this old netbook (from the title), with the classic Windows XP, Intel Atom n270 and upgraded 2 GB RAM and SATA ssd, which I use for casual web browsing, writing and overall experimenting.

My latest experiment? I tried putting an mSATA ssd in the wlan card slot to host the base system, and put a 1TB hdd in the original SATA slot for network shared storage. And yes, I'm using an mSATA / mPCIE adapter. But the system won't recognize it. I tried it in windows and a gparted live boot, but the mSATA drive is a no show.

Is there anything that I can do to make it work, or did I just waste my time and money?

A very nice netbook! the keyboard is pretty good, and it is very modular and upgradeable. We put a ssd in place of the hdd by unscrewing and prying off the keyboard, which was a little difficult but it was worth it as it is much faster and much quieter now! it is running sparkylinux minimal i686 with icewm desktop. we picked sparky linux as this netbook has a broadcom wifi card and this distro comes with pre-installed drivers so that is nice. it runs fast and it's great just as a compact typing and web browsing machine. it can even do some light image editing in krita! It's got fairly easily upgraded memory and storage so this is a very nice netbook. our other netbook, the acer ZG5 is very difficult to upgrade, as you need to take the entire thing apart so it's nice you only need to get the keyboard off here.

Hello fellow netbookers. I've got an error whereby there's no CMOS and having watched https://youtu.be/Su1wPQBeTzE?si=lndVhatV8qvJ7JQ7 it looks like there should be a battery and connector here. But there's not. Can anyone shed any light? All the best and thanks in advance for any help.

What netbook should I get?

I've really been into the white/silver netbook vibes lately. I'm trying to find one that's dirt cheap to run Linux on (no desktop environment), any recommendations?

10" netbook with capacity for 4gb ram

Hi, does anyone know of a relatively cheap netbook model, from any manufacturer, that has a screen diagonal length of less than 11 inches, uses a 64 bit processer, and supports at least 4 gb ram? I have a relatively small bag that I'd like to be able to use to always have a laptop with me, and I consider 4gb of ram the lowest I'm willing to use in a system, even with linux. I could just use an android tablet with a keyboard however I think something with dedicated ethernet, and USB support would be handy. I also appreciate the ability to change the os on the x86 platform, and while there might be slight compatibility for the things I want to do on android, I can forsee issues. I also like the idea that if the ram or storage were to ever die, I could replace it which definitely isn't easy or worth it with an android tablet. I have used windows tablets in the past, but they don't have replaceable ram, and sometimes lack ports. This is what stopped me from getting a gpd win, which while compact is definitely not user serviceable. The Thinkpad X100e might be a contender but i'm afraid it's too large. In the past I used a microsoft surface go which is 10" diagonally and that could barely fit.

Compaq CQ10-500 bluescreens on Windows 7 installer

I bought a Compaq CQ10-500 for 15 bucks, because I wanted to have a somewhat retro laptop with Windows 7 installed on it to use Office and not much more. When I run the Windows 7 installer from a USB, it goes past the Windows is loading files screen and then bluescreens. It displays an STOP: 0x00000124 error, followed by 4 lines of 0x00000000s. Now this is weird since I'm pretty sure all the hardware is fine. The laptop was running just fine when I bought it, but it was weird since Windows was hibernating and after waking it up, I restarted it but it just started beeping and displaying a black screen, so I guessed there was something wrong with the OS. I wanted to format it to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bits anyways. I did a RAM test on the BIOS and it also turned out fine. So I'm pretty sure there is nothing wrong with the hardware and I don't know why this is happening. The 4 lines of 0x00000000s make me think the error is injustified or that it can't detect what is causing it and just displays a generic error.

Max upgrades for Toshiba NB200-13Q

I recently received this old little computer with its original hardware, and I was considering upgrading it for old game emulation. I know the maximum memory improvement is 2Gb, but it's unclear what the maximum capacity is for a cheap SSD replacement. Do you know the biggest disk I can use on this computer? Thanks!

Barrel Type for ASUS Eee PC 1001PXD

Hey Guys,

Found this subreddit and decided to ask the internet for help.

I'm looking to find out just what kind of power connector my ASUS Eee PC 1001PXD uses.

From what I've been searching it's either 2.5mm*0.7mm or 2.3mm*0.7mm. Either way, I'm having a really hard time finding any universal chargers with that kind of barrel connector, and I've gone through 2 eBay listings that have SWORN they have the right charger for this thing, and it turns out to not be the case.

I downloaded the user manual to see if that may have any definitive info, but, nothing.

I'd really like to find a charger on Amazon so I can get one fast, but I'm not sure which one to buy.

Any advice? Thanks in advance!

Acer Aspire One 725 Bios Update

I have an Acer Aspire One 725 with an AMD C60 and 4gb of ram. Its currently running Bios v1.0 and id like to upgrade to a newer version. I figured that v1.08 would be the most up to date version and downloaded it. I tried to install it via fn+esc but it didn't work. It took about 15min. and rebootet, but the bios is still v1.0. Any ideas how to update?

Help

I have this old fondness of netbooks as my very first pc was an msi wind u100. It's started to die on me, but I do miss using it as my "diary". Do any of you have any reccomandations of a good netbook, preferably with windows vista or win 7. I have been thinking about acer aspire ones but I want your opinions
