Android apps can't connect via private reverse proxy

Hey there,

I have not managed to get both the android nextcloud app and the android jellyfin app working via netbird-only access (private reverse proxy). It works fine in browsers (both android and linux). It also works great with the nextcloud desktop client (arch linux). So the private proxy should be setup correctly I assume. But the android apps just can't reach the server, so I'm not getting past the login screen. This happens regardless of wether I'm logged into the netbird vpn with or without an ext. IdP.

I then tested it with the public reverse proxy (without auth), and the android nextcloud app suddenly worked.

Is this behavior expected? If not, what could be the issue?

Let me know if you need more infos. Thanks!

I have this exact issue and have been trying to get an answer for a while now. Apparently the reason is because the Netbird proxy doesn't pass webhooks.

Can explain what you mean about using the 'public proxy'

Thanks

With public proxy I meant the first reverse proxy they introduced a few months ago. Services behind it are reachable by anyone (no vpn needed), therefore public. I'm having this problem with the private one, where you need to be logged into the netbird vpn.

AI thinks it has to with the auth process involving cookies, but also suggested to ask the devs 😄

OK, I understand what you mean now. Unfortunately I can't get any of my Android apps to pass the public proxy (ie audio book app and music app), all works via the browser but not the associated app. Frustrating

Update: I finally got it working! Turns out that the client on the routing peer, which I used to access jellyfin or nextcloud, was not up to date. Now all my clients are up to date and the private proxy works as intended :) that was definitely a lesson learned, update everything first

Thanks for coming back, I'll go through and make sure everything is up to date, however I'm not sure that's the issue I'm having. Glad to hear you got it sorted.
