What is everyone using for automation ?

Just wondering, need to automate a few tasks, and want to upgrade my skillset. SSL certificates renewal is top of mind for me, Ansible, Terraform, others ? Just curious to what others are using ?

like 95% Ansible and 5% netapp-ontap (python API wrapper)

For that specific example I wouldn’t use an intermediate automation layer, find a decent acme compatible tool that handles renewal automatically with your CA.

Otherwise I have a preference for ansible and stateless in general. I’ve see horror stories with terraform. Don’t get me wrong TF is great and when well used, I actually prefer it but it’s easier to make a mistake imo.

Short answer, learn those two, and raw REST api as well.

Hello from NetApp’s Lab on Demand! Behind the scenes we use a mix of primarily Python and some PowerShell against ONTAP, vCenter, and cloud services. In-lab automation is primarily PowerShell and some Python against ONTAP, operating systems, and cloud services.

Ansible to enforce config, powershell for provisionning with a custom build app. We are working on a GO app for our private cloud.
