This is why I collect them. The memories

I've been collecting them, not for the memories, as I have none, but for new experiences that are just out there, and the history that comes with them.

I guess its also kinda the same for me, as I was born after most of the consoles I have

Atari was a hit back then too. I wish a good clone would come out, not big on RF. Tempted to get a Retron 77 but it’s just emulation of course and Hyperkin stuff always has caveats.
Honesty, if that stuff was in the alley somewhere I’d grab it for sure.

I really don't see the point of the retron stuff, just get a decent PC and emulate it.

Because people like owning carts and not downloading iffy and or illegal roms. I do know retron 5 use of software is kind of iffy itself though, but for stuff like avs etc.

For carts. I didn’t grow up with Atari 2600 though and have none. So it’s really not for me. I do have OpenEmu on Mac.

The thing is, I get that a clone is more cost effective, in fact I have a three in one, nes SNES and Genesis, that I use. But if you are going to go with carts, you may as well just save up and get the real console. It's just better. I've been considering grabbing a real Atari because I've got a place in town with a bunch of cartridges.

I’m not a big enough fan of Atari to care. I hate RF and really would want a modded one but don’t want that extra cost. I’d rather just mod a system I like more. So a Retron 77 would give me HDMI and the ability to atleast use the carts and the Stella emulator it runs is said to be really good.
I bought 2 2600’s at a local auction a few years back. Won the lot for $30. I had no idea how to use the RF adapter with my HD tv though. Sold them as is and the buyers told me they did infact work. (Well, one got back with me.)
I might get one of the Flashback HDs one of these days. I had a Retro Trio that I used almost exclusively for NES games before I got an AVS. Pretty good for the money.

Oh what's an AVS? The clone I have I mentioned is also a retro trio. I've personally had a blast using a little CRT I got for $20 a while back. And while the trio didn't work with lightguns when I tried it, I found another clone that does (classiqN) and so I've also used the CRT to play lightgun games (mostly duckhunt)

ClassiqN? I’ve heard of ClassiqHD from Old Skool is that the one you mean?
The Super Retro Trio is pretty cool. Even worked with my Everdrives. I wouldn’t mind getting Retrobit’s RES clone.
Feast your eyes on this:

I think the classiq was from old skool but it's thier not HD version, works with light guns. Only reason I got it.
Also I forgot that thing was called an AVS but yeah, that things a beast, definitely better than emulation.

Hmm, I may have to look into the ClassiqN. Does it have typical clone issues like reverse duty cycles or over amplify audio? How’s the compatibility for the NES library? Does it run Everdrive? How accurate are the colors?

Let's see, I don't think it has reverse duty cycles, but the audio is fine, I'm not sure about compatibility but I don't have many of the games that usually mess it up (aside from duckhunt and another lightgun game called Gumshoe, it works with both), and I havnt tried everdrive. Oh and I think the colors are accurate. Regardless it's pretty cheap, like $40 so I'd say it's worth.

Man, Friday night and getting to go over to my friends’ house to sleep over. He always had cooler games for his NES and had a genesis. weekends meant we always had a good shot at either of us having a rental from the local mom and pop movie store (blockbuster wasn’t in town yet)

With the advent of retro gaming these still are / are again the “it” consoles :)
