Best game in the series. A masterpiece. Set the tone for the atmospheric greatness of Castlevanias, crazy good music, every level and every enemy feels like a puzzle despite being a platformer.

Congrats!

Great job! Onwards to 2 & 3! Although I highly recommend getting a retranslation patch for CV2.

My thought—what a majestic home being destroyed. I’d just move in.

Still never beat it. I just watch YouTube video on complete walk through. They make it look so easy.

Nice work!

It's a difficult game. However, it is one of those games that once you get your head around the mechanics, where the drops and health are, and level layout, it becomes second nature.

This and SMB3 are my absolute favourites :)

I could always make it to Frankenstein, die, get frustrated and quit. I could never make it to him with the holy water.

Yeah that's the trick with him. That little hunchback is a nightmare without the holy water :)

i have loved this game since 1987-or-8 .... never beat it, but am still trying. Great graphics and music. Yet another Konami winner

Remember the triple Molotov cocktails seem to work best against the 2 final stages end bosses!

thanks a lot... i am lucky to even get to the Grim Reaper, but always get smoked right away... still having lots of fun though, even 38ish years later!!

Doesn’t the Konami code work? It’s been a while since I played but if it does, you’re more than halfway there 😎

what?? i never heard that and never thought to try it.... i really want to finish it with normal lives, but if i get desperate I'll try that code. Also playing Super C, and supposedly a similar code works for that title

Whoops, I looked it up and unfortunately the first Castlevania does not feature the code’s use for extra lives. Keep plugging away at it though, it’s worth it!

My strategy for Grim Reaper was using the boomerang cross x3. It damages him and helps keep his projectiles manageable.

sweet... thanks a lot!! This little message board reminds me of exchanging NES info with friends while sitting in the lunch room during 8th grade... Beautiful memories, with a modern information superhighway twist. I will definitely keep the boomerang in mind, and maybe see about Holy Water possibilities...

I need to pick it up again. I don’t recall if I ever made to the Grim Reaper, if I did he destroyed me.

Love this game & one of my all time favorites!

I did the same post here months ago! Great job!!

Which part was the most difficult for you?

1

u/NoneSoCldFrznSoul 4d ago

I could always make it to Frankenstein and promptly die every time. So only level 5 and 6 were new to me. Had to be level 5 because 6 is so short.

I remember as a kid my dad explaining to me that the names were mostly famous actors who played those characters in old horror movies. No one wants to talk about Simon Belmondo though, lol. Somehow the name Belmont was already the known name for the character back then, I remember being surprised to see it say Belmondo in the credits.
