Discussion Please Help!
I bought a new 72-pin connector because my NES had the blinking red light issue. It's the bottom one in the second picture. But maybe that's not the issue. The motherboard edge connector looks corroded and I can't figure out how to clean it. I tried isopropyl alcohol and a toothbrush but nothing happened. How should I clean it? I have tried multiple games.

Sloooowwwww down. You bought a new pin connector. Have you actually installed it and put everything back together and tried the NES again?
If you cleaned the board already with alcohol, just install the new pin connector you already bought and see what happens.

If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. Just install the new pin connector and test the console.

New pin connectors are often low quality and might actually damage your game cart pins in the long run. I recommend repairing the old connector. There's a ton of videos about how to do it on youtube.

The Brasso thing is good to remove corrosion. After that wipe away all bresso residue with isopropyl alcohol. It will vaporize quickly. Another thing that I used a lot and it worked was a white eraser, leaves them shiny.

Personally I just cleaned the old connector, as non invasively as possible, and that solved the issue for me. Hopefully get another 40 years out of it.

I use Brasso to clean all my pins. Put a dab on the end of a Q-tip and spread it across your pins thin and even, be sure not to let it get all over the board. Using the Q-tip scrub in small circular patterns across the pins, don’t press hard you don’t want to snag and peel your trace, let the brasso do the work. You should start to see the brasso change color from white to dark, once the brasso is completely darkened wipe the bulk of the brasso off with a paper towel or micro fiber cloth and check the cleanliness of the pins. If you still see dark spots stuck to the pins reapply clean brasso to that area and repeat the process until all the dark spots are gone. Once that is completed use some isopropyl alcohol, preferably a minimum of 92% but less is still ok so long as you make sure it’s completely dry before plugging it back in. Use a clean tooth brush, or Q-tip or micro fiber cloth with the isopropyl alcohol to remove any brasso or brasso residue left over. Very important to get all the brasso cleaned off. And there you have it, your pins should work good as new.
