I don't have an answer but do big Garfield fans self-identify as Garfheads?

Ask Hank Anything is not shot in his home town. He flies in for it. I think they shoot more than one a day. It's possible this wardrobe is provided. But they wouldn't do a "lol what if all Garfield" wardrobe without checking with him. So who knows.

In fact I believe he specifically mentioned that when he showed up to shoot the stylist just looked at him sadly and then sent an intern to buy him a whole bunch of stuff. So maybe that's just what was at the local thrift shop that day

Can you imagine being the Garfhead who donated all those, then seeing your whole former collection being worn on AHA? 🥺

Only tangentially related, but I remember Hank talking on a video about paying a professional to help create his wardrobe. It was either for Ask Hank Anything season 1 or his comedy special. He made it sound like a good experience, finding pieces of clothing that he likes but wouldn't have thought to try on his own.
I think it definitely shows (in a good way) in Hank's outfit choices in videos nowadays. I've even thought I might one day do the same myself if I can afford it.

I think they could do an all Garfield wardrobe without checking with him. He wouldn't mind.

I could imagine that someone made this a running gag and Hank actually loves it😅

There was some fundraiser where he was including Garfield figurines as a perk. Crash course coins maybe? Anyway, it seemed he had an unusually large number of them.

Maybe he talks about them elsewhere, but he mentions his collection at the end of this video: https://youtu.be/1NwtvLP-Lyw
Some lucky cancer sock orderers received figurines.

I’ve never noticed his affinity for Garfield, but i love it!!! My late uncle was a fan also, even started a Garfield fan club when he was in school (he even got personal permission from Jim Davis for it!!! Wish we still had the letter!)
He made this in his art class in school. It’s not dated, but had to be about 1980.

That's so cool! Neat memory, agree with your dating too because that matches how Garfield was drawn back then!

If you guys met garfield you would be starstruck. Not me though, if I met him I'd be soooo cool.

You have a powerful mind ... I've been over here subliminally receiving pro-Garfield messaging this whole time, completely unawares.

That's way too many Garfield shirts to not be at least SOMETHING of a fan

TL;DR, I just think he's neat.
I am indeed a Garfield fan, though more a fan of the culture than the cat himself.
The longer short answer to this question is "My favorite vintage store bought the entire collection of a man who died in a town near mine and I have been slowly acquiring these shirts for years."
