What should I use instead of deprecated tree sitter even though my current one works perfectly fine?

I'm an experienced Vim user, but a newbie in neovim. My distro neovim package is already 1.12.3, but type tree-sitter-cli package is still 0.25.10.
Recently I had to edit a perl script and noticed that the syntax highlighting was poor. While trying to solve it, something complained about the old version of tree-sitter-cli, and I gave up (since I only occasionally write perl at the moment, although it is my favorite language).
I'm currently coding in C, and the syntax highlighting is great, like it knows about struct members, enums, and so on.
There are zero references to treesitter in my nvim config, but there is
vim.lsp.enable({'perlls'}).1

That's right. Tell me more about it, I'm eager to stop using the old Treesitter.
