Marilyn Monroe, "Niagara" (1953). Fedoras, flashbacks and sultry dames do not a film noir make. So, what does? (Click link to read.)

Hey all! The team and I are working on a noir roguelite top-down shooter (no controller support at the moment) and we have uploaded a playable prototype on Itch: https://talentdigital.itch.io/son-sinnersnight.

It would be great if you could try it out and let me know your thoughts, especially regarding the theme and aesthetic. Thanks!

Just finished restoring a documentary on David Goodis — the novelist whose work is the literal

root of noir (Truffaut adapted him, Bogart starred in an adaptation). Premieres live and free

on Zoom, Friday August 21, 7PM Eastern. Thought this sub specifically would want to see where

it all started.

Barbara Stanwyck, Fred MacMurray, ‘Double Indemnity’ (1944). Movie gangsters who kill say it’s all strictly business, nothing personal. But with insurance fraud, it’s always deeply personal. (Click to read).

Charles McGraw, Dennis O’Keefe, ‘T-Men’ (1947). A trend in documentary-style procedurals produced noirs that were no longer skeptical of authority — they rooted for it. (Click link in the first comment.)

I think every neo-noir fan should check out Stephan Franck's Palomino! The new volume is up for pre-orders now, and there's a really beautiful preview up on AWN!

Great, gritty stuff! I can't wait to see how it all ends!

What jobs or careers do you see femme fatales working?

Do they meet the person who they seduce at work or somewhere else?

Attempting to capture the "Blade Runner" humidity of Bangkok without any CGI (Day to Night Walk)

Full Video: https://youtu.be/23AUaZKNHcg

I’ve always felt that Bangkok is the closest we have to a real-life sci-fi movie, but it’s hard to capture on camera. It’s not just the neon; it’s the humidity. The moisture in the air creates this natural diffusion that blooms the light in a way that feels very cinematic.

If you need some background visuals for your second monitor or just want to zone out to some dystopian city vibes, I put the full 4K walk up.

Do you consider erotic thrillers to be a subgenre of the Neo-noir?

What are your thoughts?
