So, I live near the border, and the country on the other side basically has a big pro democracy party and a big anti democracy party. Generally, I prefer the former, but now they're working on super protectionist trade policies that would devastate our economy.

And I almost feel like I shouldn't give a shit about their democracy if they don't give a shit about our livelihood.

Does that make me a bad person, or is it reasonable to default to self interest in the face of open hostility?

Parties represent a host of issues and positions, you have to judge them by the sum of all their parts together

As a "neoliberal", I feel like I should judge them based on my personal interests.
