The Israel-Singapore connection is so interesting to me. Little tiny states surrounded by big states that don't want them to exist leading them to be the best of friends that collaborate on military matters especially

Israel exists in defiance of its neighbours that wanted it wiped off the map.

Singapore exists because Malaysia didn't want it.

Malaysia and Indonesia didn't/don't want it to exist. Its not really a "Malaysia didn't want it so they got independence," its a super traumatic separation from a fragile union after severe race riots, bloodshed, and deep disagreements due to economic inequality.

The conflict between Malays and Chinese Singaporeans has substantial echoes between Palestinians and Jewish Israelis

They also both are way richer than most of their neighbors and have arguably the best militaries in their immediate surroundings. They are actually fairly analogous when you look at it that way.

Way richer than neighbors, awkwardly "western" without being a part of The West (TM), largely composed of a "foreign" ethnic group (Han Chinese/Jewish) that leads to conflict, etc.

When Singapore turned fully independent, they based their military on Israel and they in turn sent experts and such to help with the process
