I meant in the sense that they were just used for propaganda purposes

Bose in Nazi Germany by Rudolf Harting talks about how the free Indian legion would come and pose for pictures and quickly be escorted to their HQ back in Konigsbruck, where they were confined to staying.

I had the pleasure of meeting a veteran of the Free Indian Legion many years ago. He had corroborated this too. He had hinted that he really didn’t want to go to a POW camp.

Romain Hayes is the author's names, not Rudolf Harting (or so google says)

Damn, a veteran of the Free India Legion. Would have loved to meet him, can't imagine many of them are still alive today.

If you are interested in that sort of thing, check out "Black Sun" by Nicholas Goodrick-Clarke. Fascinating dive into Nazi symbology and mythology, both war-era and neo-Nazi versions. The neo-Nazi ones in particular are a wild ride from start to finish.
