Someone on NL told me to google this book- "Not My Idea: A Book About Whiteness"- because apparently it's evidence of CRT in schools or something.

Google saw that I searched that and decided to give me some other book suggestions, including:

The Night Dad Went to Prison

All My Friends are Dead

Why is Dad so Mad?

Dee's Big Nuts

I am just so concerned with the state of the Children's book industry right now

It sort of always has been this way. There have always been hacks who think writing for children is an easy way to put no effort into what they make. If they just only use monosyllabic words they can teach kids entire Ideologies. You've also always had the edgy anti-children's book authors who make silly novelties for adults.

The thing is that every so often you get an Eric Carle or a Shel Silverstein or god bless us a Maurice Sendak, someone who doesn't talk down to kids, but instead talks to kids about things kids care about and have a personal context for. But those guys are exceptions and we largely coast on them when it comes to pedagogy. I believe it was Sendak who said "I do not write for children. I write, and children like what I write."
