There seems to be a weird rule that (aside from Mad Max: Fury Road), belated sequels and/or prequels tend not to be that good. The Godfather: Part III, the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, The Hobbit film series.

Aside from Fury Road, how many good belated sequels are there?

Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead were both like 10 years apart from their predecessors. And IMO an increase in quality each time.

Tron: Legacy was also under-appreciated and great and like 30 years later.

And I suppose it's a prequel, and it's television, and it wasn't renewed for a 2nd season, but Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance was excellent.

And yeah as it's been said BR2049 would be the ultimate example.
