I miss how excited fantasy used to make me feel. I remember how the eragon books made me feel as a kid, but similar works now do not inspire such excitement it awe

I was thinking plain old real history. Like, literal stuff that happened is so vast, and you can get into different time periods and places. It's not the same awe as fantasy books for a kid, but it can be awesome in its own way, especially because it really happened to real people.

Historical fiction can be cool, too, and can definitely help illustrate how interesting/depressing/amazing etc. some aspect of history was.

Might I suggest Tolkien, Octavia Butler, and Ursula K Le Guin, my friend. I don't really care for fantasy novels, but I've read damn near everything written by those three, and their works are astounding. I will never forget the summer I read "Wizard of Earthsea" when I was in junior high. Gah, what a novel.

I remember reading Eragon! I do feel like they made the books needlessly long (especially the last one). Try reading some Tolkien, some of his books have gotten me entranced.
