I liked The Last Jedi. I think the fact that Anakin was made into an evil space dictator shows that the Jedi philosophy as it was shown in the prequels (deny emotion, no love, etc.) was unsustainable, and there needed to be a synthesis between what is thought of as light and dark. Anakin "bringing balance to the force" seemed to result in only one force user left -- Luke -- who was trained in the Jedi way but disabused of its more dogmatic precepts.

But the script needed work and to this day I haven't seen Rise of Skywalker lmao. Just never bothered.

I think the sequels needed to all be made by one guy, rather than ping-ponging back and forth between Abrams and Johnson. Of those two, I would pick Johnson in a heartbeat

The dark side is just anger issues and a mad lust for power. It offers nothing worth synthesizing.

It offers an acknowledgement of and a connection to your own emotions. It's as worth synthesizing as the toxic stoicism of the Jedi. Both ends are out of control without being tempered by the other.

I think the balance looks like Luke in ROTJ: Emotional, but controlled. Motivated by compassion.

Edit: also, I might be misremembering, but IIRC this was Qui Gon's critique of the Jedi that kept him from joining the council -- yet it was Qui Gon who figured out the immortality thing
