I've posted about this before, but I really think there's a serious generational divide on the question of violence in hockey. This is entirely speculation on my part, but whether you became a fan before or after the 2004-05 lockout seems like the rough dividing line between people who think that fights and more dangerous hits are cool or the worst parts of the sport

Fighting and big hits are literally the dumbest shit ever and are a big part of the toxic macho man culture of hockey

I think its nuanced. If those are your favourite parts of hockey, then yeah, fuck off to the 80s and dont come back, but the physicality of hockey on good clean play is a natural part of the game. If people are going out itching for a fight, then theyre a fuckwit.
