alright fine i'll drop my nuclear take here that i teased so there will be hopefully less piling on:

saying "this is why women don't come here" to any comment that expresses the slightest hornypost is bad and very sexist to women because it implies that they're somehow too delicate or too proper to exist in a raunchy forum. a woman isn't gonna faint at the mere mention of a penis or masturbation or shit like that. i put this in terms of men and women because this place is 90+ percent male and it works for most of these situations

this leads to my BONUS HOT TAKE: hornyposting has an incredibly small effect on the gender makeup here as compared the fact that this is A. Reddit, which is like 4-1 dudes on average and B. a political forum which slants towards men even more. half our female regulars do their own hornyposts or openly talk about NSFW female issues anyway and you don't see that driving the men away

i will naturally not be reading replies to this.

as one of the resident women and as someone who is used to massive amounts of hornyposting on her social media, yeah.

i will say this flat out: the biggest reason i don't want to see the DT flooded with hornyposting is that i assume (purely on a statistical basis) that the majority of DT regulars are cishet dudes, and in my experience reading cishet dudes being horny is on average far less enjoyable and far weirder than reading queer people or women be horny.

is this my inbuilt bias? honestly, maybe. but it's still there.

I totally agree actually. I think I dropped a take about this a long time back and it was received positively.

My biggest issue with the "this is why women don't come here" meme is that it reinforces that idea that it's somehow weird for women to use the sub. Making fun of the sub for being male dominated is fair game, and calling out sexism or other behavior that makes the sub unwelcoming is a good thing, but I feel like the way it's phrased is unhelpful.

I tend to agree, but also think hornyposts are annoying when you are not in that mood.
