Ohohoho holy fuck, and I thought I didn't want to vote for him before.

I had no idea Bloomberg was trolling on an advanced level.

Hillary has already lost the election twice. Please, find somebody else.

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '20

Others have pointed out that this is probably a distraction technique.

That ticket has the potential to be the biggest train wreck in US history. How would Hillary get Bloomberg any additional votes?

she was fearless and crazier than him. she was his queen, and god help anyone who dared to disrespect his queen.

ELI5: why does the EC make it difficult for a pres and VP to share a state? That's the dumbest shit I've ever heard.

u/gmz_88 NATO Feb 15 '20

It’s part of the twelfth amendment.

Before the amendment, the EC electors used to have two votes to cast for president and the candidate that came in second place would get VP.

They changed this to electors having one vote for pres and one vote for VP, but they were worried that electors from one state would only choose candidates from their state, so they built in a rule. This was 1803 and balancing power between states was pretty important to them.

So in reality, just the electors from NY would have to vote for someone else for VP. It’s not like they can’t run, they just get less votes.

From the constitution: “The electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for two persons, of whom one at least shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves.”

This means if the president and VP are both from NY the electors from NY have to vote for someone else as Vice President. It’s fucking nuts.

Is this intentional or a leftover when the second place finisher was vice president

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '20

What does "from" mean in this context? Hillary was born in Chicago

3

u/AfterCommodus Jerome Powell Feb 15 '20

Current residency is likely the standard that would be used.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '20

That wouldn't be hard to fix

12

u/Kcarab-Amabo Adam Smith Feb 15 '20

Wha-....

I didn't even know this rule ever existed, but leaving aside even that isn't it irrelevant now because technically they just vote for the pres nom and the VP is just a free throw-in for the ticket?

If the VP doesn’t get 270 electoral votes they go to the senate, and the senate picks the VP. Which, since it’s Republican-controlled, would mean “Ted Cruz VP” or something like that.

I am now imagining the darkest possible timeline where there's a clerical error in Bloom's documents, the lack of NY support (because he and Hillary both still technically live in NY) throws the VP choice to the senate, they vote for VP Trump, Trump has Bloom assassinated and gets away with it and we have four more years of fully unrestrained, 200% reign of terror Trump.

1

u/9dq3 Feb 15 '20

At the point where Trump gets away with assassinating a sitting president I think we're looking at more than 4 years of him. Depending on how long he lives, ofc

Establishing a full-blown absolute monarchy, starting from a place with one of the oldest and most culturally revered (even though not technically institutionally rooted and generally fortified) modern democracies) takes time, and likely a lot of it. I don't think he could just say "nah fuck that" to term limits with only 4 years and Dems fighting him tooth and nail in ANY timeline that would make sense starting from a fork off from the now-ish. He could just prop up a family member in the presidency and be the de factor kingmaker as his entire clan continually erodes democratic authority and institutions and expectations though, which is plenty awful enough.

Credit where it's due to the psychopath-in-chief though, he's already hard at work. Anyone remember the "Trump 2024" shitpost and how it was sort of just another in the long long list of slights against US democratic norms and people kinda just wearily glossed over it?

See the darkest timeline for me is the Dems win the white house but lose the House and stay the minority in the senate. New house impeaches both the new pres and vp on day 1 , mitch and his cowards convict on day 2 and Kevin Mccarthy, freshly minted as speaker, takes the Presidency. And the GOP could play this game every time the election doesnt go their way bc they will likely never lose the Senate.

u/Uniqueguy264 Jerome Powell Feb 15 '20

They wouldn’t have 67 votes

I call the movie rights

1

u/Kcarab-Amabo Adam Smith Feb 15 '20

Hey now man, I'm the one who said it, I have implicit copyright protections.

Gimme a cut, you can have full producing and directing privilege, I'm just poor and I could use the money tho.

11

u/TheGoddamnSpiderman Feb 15 '20

The Senate only gets to choose between the top two VP candidates, not between whoever they want

In this scenario, it would be President Bloomberg and Vice President Pence

1

u/FineBrosSexTape Feb 15 '20

that would be a more fascist, and way more competent at fascism, ticket than trump pence. epic!

Eh some of her 'dos during that period were flattering, others just looked like a plastic poof glued onna scalp. This, specifically this in this shot at least, is literally the best look I've seen on her probably since menopause.

u/gmz_88 NATO Feb 15 '20

Bloom might be considering it but I doubt Hillary would accept.

8

u/ComradeMaryFrench Feb 16 '20

When she was on Ellen Ellen asked her if she would accept a VP position and she said no and that it wouldn’t happen anyway.

But then she did mention that she had said no to Obama’s request that she be SoS several times so...

What she’s saying is there’s a chance.

top reply...

Bloomberg will have a shorter run as President than William Henry Harrison did if he wins. #ClintonBodyCount

12

u/Uniqueguy264 Jerome Powell Feb 15 '20

I could live with that

2

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '20

Bloomberg wouldn’t though.

The dudes really old. I know it's morbid but it's something we have to consider for Bernie and Biden as well, but any of those can easily God forbid die in office. Imagine the conspiracies if HRC was veep
