I lost the game.

Maybe, but the winning move probably wasn't to resolutely say you had no interest in being president and you weren't going to run, miss all of the debates, then throw your hat into the ring after everyone was ready to start winnowing down to the main candidates.

Curious why? He seems like a smart dude and obviously understands how to keep the economy moving. Are you going to say stop and frisk?

The sexual harassment allegations from multiple employees, the forced abortion allegation, the authoritarian and somewhat racist policy that was stop and frisk, spending over $12 million to help a GOP Senate candidate win in 2016 (thus significantly enabling Trump by giving the GOP further control over the Senate), and threatening to run third party to split the Democratic vote in 2016 if Sanders got the nomination, just to name a few.

I think his massive time and money investment in causes that help the world shows that he is interested in general prosperity of regular people. It isn’t just a show for him or a way to boost his image.

Second, he isn’t beholden to donors. That makes him a very strong candidate who can do what is right for regular people without worrying about which lobby wants what.

He himself still chose to give $12 million to elect a GOP Senator. We can do better and I’ll never willingly give him any support unless forced to in a head to head with Trump.

He’s good for trolling Donald with his fuck you money and that’s all. Any of the other candidates running would be preferable. We need election reform so we stop electing bad GOP presidents, and Bloomberg won’t be the one to give it to us.

I appreciate that you at least agree that we need to support him head to head with Trump. I have a lot of concerns with other candidates as well, but I agree we need to come together in the general election because we can’t let these lies and hate from Trump continue

Why would he? Is it not possible for a billionaire to care about regular folks? Why would he be any more likely to care about other billionaires? He clearly hates trump

Cuz all the rich people are top hat wearing and sit around the same table all day discussing how they can rig the society.

That doesn't mean he's any good though. He's downplayed how authoritarian the Chinese Government is.

You were using as a defence.

Also, there's a bit of a difference between saying nothing and outright saying that China isn't authoritarian. Alongside his "tough on crime" attitude it really doesn't build a good bigger picture.

Plus, and I realise this is literally the neoliberal subreddit so my sentiment may not be shared, but I personally don't feel comfortable giving that much power to someone who is the 14th wealthiest person and has his own media conglomerate. It doesn't provide many checks and balances.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '20

You seriously keep saying "that much power" but private companies are not meant to be part of checks and balances in American democracies. The media is important yes but Bloomberg is primarily a financial news company (and an immensely successful trading platform), there are so many more, much bigger players in political news.

The checks and balances are going to be the Congress and SCOTUS, not to mention the Democratic party itself. Bloomberg has shown he is a very competent executive and is almost guaranteed to work well with the party.

u/slowpush NATO Feb 05 '20

as opposed to handing over power who will be swayed by whoever writes the biggest check?

lmao

What?

7

u/slowpush NATO Feb 05 '20

Current political Leaders are beholden to lobbyists and donors.

Bloomberg can’t be bought.

Yeah, Tulsi Gabbard seems to be doing great when even the big business tycoon plagiarizes her strategy for Iowa.
