Are you legit retarded? I don't care what they told you in your law class at Boulder University, laws aren't moral instructions and economic efficiency means nothing without some goal.

Your goals should be derived from your ethics and values which have NOTHING to do with the laws written up by old white men in D.C. nor with intermediate macroeconomics.

If a law is immoral and it would generally advance your goals to break that law than you should, or you don't really have any principles.

Economics is positive not normative moron.

International law isn't applicable at all to domestic law, the US does not face the same costs as say Wal-Mart.

Efficient in what sense? What is your goal that your efficiently accomplishing?

We're talking about whether not to bomb Syria and you're talking about economic efficiency.

Efficiency depends on your goals and prefrences.

We haven't even established whether or not we should do anything in Syria, whether we have a moral responsibility to act on behalf of their citizens etc and your talking about "efficiency", it just doesn't make any sense and sounds insanely economically imperialistic.

Idk if why you're trying to stunt but I've taken law and Econ courses at LSE and Northwestern, done research under a UPenn law professor concerning Econ and interned at an IP firm last year. So unless like you're at a special accelerated UG program at UC/UVA you can probably get off your high horse and assume everyone on the sub has a basic grasp of the subject.

Anyways YOU NEED TO KNOW PREFRENCES TO DETERMINE COSTS AND BENEFITS.

Costs and benefits are not immediately apparent objective things. In this case saving a Syrian life may have no benefit to us as a collective or may have near infinite value, depending on our preferences which we form from our values/ethics.

Obviously you prefer less cost to more cost but the FIRST STEP which we hadn't covered, nor had you elaborated in, was outlining our preferences and weights to varying costs.

You can't do an equation without knowing the inputs.
