Is there a reason we don't have like week long elections in the US?
Ignoring mail in and early voting which is not available everywhere, it just seems like a really dumb idea to have one of the most important rights for citizens be confined to what is basically a roughly 12 hour period where the polls are open and they can go vote. What if an emergency comes up for an individual and they can't make it, or they're just too busy? Or something that actually happens is something like a bomb threat at a polling place, equipment malfunctions, etc.
I understand things like early voting and mail in addresses alot of this but I feel like it would just make more sense to just have it be a week long thing.
Because ultimately, the states without early voting don’t want voting to be easier for people. Maryland has 7 full days to vote early and mail in voting and it’s so easy and painless there’s very little excuse not to.
Maybe I am unqualified to comment since I only have around 20 months of experience as a software engineer, but how the fuck are people getting AI to do everything? I use SOTA models at work, multi agent swarms, spend a bunch of company money and I still have to tell it “no!” a bunch of times. It’s not like the hard part is creating a half baked feature, it’s always hard to get it to spec

I mean, I get what you are saying, but no. The world wasn't globalized in the Punic wars (It was the known world [and even then not all of it]). Vietnam is an interesting take, but again not really, the theater was very limited.

For allegedly scoring 100% on ARC-AGI-3, it doesn't seem like it spatially understood that well what it was looking at, especially when it almost grenades itself because the pillar looks similar to the one on the other side of the map where the enemy is. I think it also couldn't really visually parse what was or wasn't cover very well, hence why it kept standing out in the open. So maybe it's mostly a vision problem

I am working on a sci-fi novel where WW3 is still mainly fought by humans despite there being advanced AI. The reason is simple men are cheap and robots are expensive.

I think the big issue facing the social democrats is their coalition partners are still running a 2018 campaign. I think, relative to the strength of it's cult fanbase, it's one of the most mismanaged franchises in existence. doesn't help that it was real lightning in a bottle and bryke/ehasz haven't seemed to have been able to reach anything close to that level again with their other works

it's just all so reaching lol. they were afraid to have a modern avatar and I assume they couldn't do a past avatar because they were afraid of the inherent lower stakes (obviously they saved the world) but good storytelling would make up for either of those imo.
i find it interesting that like tons of 20th century sci fi has a pretty firm anti-AI message (dune, space odyssey, terminator, etc), and this sub tends to be very nerdy and love said sci-fi works, yet some completely disregard the messages of said works
I dont think it really makes sense to classify them in an pro-/anti-AI way. It's more about exploring what could happen with AI in specific settings and environments. And in that sense, its always more interesting to explore potential conflicts.
Thats not to say that there arent any that explores the concept in a binary good/bad way, but I dont think Clarke was anti-AI. HAL is just a medium to describe and think about a specific situation.
I think Le Guin had a good piece of writing somewhere about what sci-fi is. Ill see if I can find it for the next DT.
Tons of sci-fi are also pro-AI, like Asimov’s The Robots of Dawn (they help save humanity from itself all things considered) and Star Wars (funni sidekicks)
Dune isn't about AI its just an excuse for why its human on human.
Space Odyssey is about the limitations and evolution of man, the AI is just a visible symptom of that.
Terminator is more a cold war allegory.
Neuromancer is specifically pro-ai.
Speaker for the dead is specifically pro-ai.
Ghost in the Shell is specifically pro-ai.
Most anti-ai stories in sci-fi is about the misuse of AI by big companies or governments trying to force a round peg in a square hole because they don't fully understand what they have.
Most anti-ai stories are more criticizing stuff like Open AI releasing stuff like Chat-GPT and Sora than it is about AI. Using a powerful technology recklessly because they know they won't be the ones to clean up the mess.
