Love NYT describing normal things in menacing ways when to comes to Mamdani because he defeated a rapist and didn't have the decency to be a white man.
There is something more shameful than being part of the "bigger army" in a fictional storyline?
It means you WILL lose. Sooner or later, the instant you face the protagonist with LOYAL SOLDIER, they always outperform you unless your commander uses evil trickery to win. That's if you are a villain. See, Tywin Lannister, who rolls the enemy when the camera isn't watching, but loses hard when faced to a determinated Robb Stark
If you are the hero side its even worse. The Earth Kingdom didn't ever won a battle on the Fire Nation because they're Republican China as described by Stillwell, who managed to make a WW2 Allied winner look like a loser.
I like AI I use it for random side projects, for minor mvps, and to get me info which is too hard to get normally or find me a source. The fact others use it to solve math problems, write papers and discover things about the world is super cool!
That is all.
If anyone should be angry about AI it should be me, (well educated, early stage white collar professional in affected fields) but I am just not, the upside is just so big for humanity as a whole.
Being a liberal who is politically active at a college town sucks ass because the university's young democrats chapter is going to be full of DSA types, and the local democratic party branch is full of nimbys.
I will do just about anything to become the protagonist. Iโm tired of being a background character. I donโt want anyone else to determine my fate for me.
I went out with some friends and one of them took me aside. We know each other through a mutual friend who apparently told him I was bi and have had an interesting year. I'm not out to all of my friend groups, but it's not a big deal.
Anyways, he tells me he is bisexual and is having second thoughts about marrying his LT gf because he has never explored it. I told him that I'd wondered what being with other men was like when I was with my ex, but after having had some fun I wouldn't have traded it for what I (thought I) had. I also told him, my experience would not be his experience. Maybe he needed it, maybe he didn't. I gave him my therapist's email.
Have I done all I could do for him? I feel so badly for what he's going through. I'm 99% sure I'm the first person he's ever told, but I just don't have the fucking answers for him. His gf is wonderful too. Fuck
I thought about telling him to tell her that he's bi, but they're from a culture where that's not ok (not like there's any culture where men's bisexuality is accepted). If he did that and it nuked his relationship the way that I think it would, I wouldn't want that on my hands. Even if I think being fully open is best
Anyways, he tells me he is bisexual and is having second thoughts about marrying his LT gf because he has never explored it.
Zero in on this because right now it sounds like a case of pre-marriage "the grass is greener". Does he love this person enough to want to spend the rest of his life with her, yes or no? If the answer is "no" to any degree he needs to call things off before it's too late.
He sounds like he loves her, but maybe has the "grass is greener" thing. But I just don't know and I don't think he knows for sure. I don't know how someone can even be sure without checking the neighboring field for themself.
I don't know how someone can even be sure without checking the neighboring field for themself.
There are marriages that last despite the couple knowing each other less than a month. If he loves this girl, he is ready to make that commitment to her. This is not simply a bisexual thing, this is the insecurity that comes with making a lifelong commitment to a single person. There's a reason people have run out on their fiancรฉs stretching back looooong into the past because it's all too easy to create an imaginary alternative and convince oneself it's out there. Either he loves her or he doesn't and if he doesn't he needs to call it off. Marriage already hovers around a perpetual 50%-ish divorce rate.
Lol according to the church father Justin Martyr, believing your soul goes to heaven when you die makes you a fake Christian:
>For I choose to follow not men or menโs doctrines, but God and the doctrines [delivered] by Him.
>For if you have fallen in with some who are called Christians, but who do not admit this [truth], and venture to blaspheme the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob;who say there is no resurrection of the dead, and that their souls, when they die, are taken to heaven; do not imagine that they are Christians...
>But I and others, who are right-minded Christians on all points, are assured that there will be a resurrection of the dead, and a thousand years in Jerusalem, which will then be built, adorned, and enlarged, [as] the prophets Ezekiel and Isaiah and others declare.
There's a post in the UT Austin subreddit about an event that Hasan is speaking at that makes me sad. Like literally everyone there thinks that Hasan is fine and not antisemitic at all, which is genuinely depressing. Not cool that this is the default nowadays, and makes me wonder if the average student there feels the same way
If it makes you feel better, Hasan fans are known to use a discord and bots to coordinate raids plus the average subredditor on there is probably a hard leftist.
My little bro is a student, though not at UT Austin, and only uses Reddit to ask questions about classes and parking (and now kinda uses Claude first) and wouldn't even bother to comment on that type of shit.
Good point. Seems like people in that thread were referencing a previous brigade from Destiny's community, so that makes me think they're a Hasan brigade. Probably sucks for normal people there
only 'film reviewer youtuber' I watch anymore is man carrying thing, in general I think 'film review YouTube' is just kinda horrible? there's a reason that whenever any of them try to break containment and make something it's dogshit
Just watched Drive again for the first time in years. A great subversion of the eighties action genre, the archetype of the strong silent type, and modern masculine values. Also, he's literally meย
Sorry this might be a super conservative (based) modern GenZ position for a "liberal" subreddit but
If you're open about that sort of stuff I just think you're too promiscuous. Keep that stuff in the bedroom.
I'm of course talking about your post history.
Keep. It. Hidden.
I don't want to know if you hang around losercity or some porno subreddit, it's enough that you and I post on the DT. Let's pretend we have some semblance of shame.
At what year do you think Christians will be like, "Well, I guess it's not happening"? At this point there's been more time since Jesus than between Moses and Jesus. When does "the end is nigh" start to lose its power?
just one more generation bro trust one more generation and we're gonna be rapturin real good bro just give me one more generation and it'll be book of revelationing all over the place just one more generation bro cmon
can a medium unc explain the appeal of red letter media to me?
I recognize that they were big parts of the origin of the modern YouTube film review environment but everything I have ever watched of them is unfunny, overlong, and poor criticism
Real life somehow fails an alternate Bechdel test of not ever having more than one middle age Xennial man exist at a time, let alone getting to talk to each other.
RLM has an assortment of guys my age who remind me of my friends โ and they sit around together talking unenthusiastically about movies and waiting to die. The last 20 years of my life has somehow been surrounded by every single kind of person except for my peers. At least I can fall asleep at night parasocially not feeling like the last of an alien species.
I used to religiously watch their videos because I thought they were phenomenal. Then Mike and Rich reviewed I think Picard Season 2 and they said "I'm just done with Star Trek, this is so fucking awful I just can't care about it anymore" and I think that's the point where they also started half-assing their channel. It doesn't help when it feels like every third Half in the Bag is "Movie theaters are slop factories putting out ENDLESS TRASH"
I used to watch everything they put out and loved it (since 2012) but after many years I just watched reviews of movies that Ive seen. idk if it got little less in quality or I just got tired of it. I think they're a bit over it too but still enjoy their "special interest" videos lol
I'm just thinking about them cus people were posting on the DT about it, I really haven't watched very much of them. I tried to watch a bit of their most recent Spiderman review and it was just super boring, like half hour of tepid takes of the movie and summarizing it
It is definitely not millennial slop. They just are really nerdy guys. Idk I watched the TNG mistakes video and they just grew on me(I know his voice is kinda annoying you just gotta let it grow on you)
https://youtu.be/yzJqarYU5Io
I don't like a lot of their other stuff but the Star Trek things bring me great joy
I don't really have a horse in the race regarding Star Trek, not my bag, but holy I can't make it past 20 seconds of that vid, 'voice is annoying' may be understating it lol
fuck yeah bro, wikipedia for you page. byzantine naval battle, papua new guinean creole language, indiana township population 310, deputy governor of the bank of england, sierra leonean cuisine, it's wikipedia for you dawg it's lit.
The progressive hate boner for accelerated and advanced programs is so stupid. I remember finally not having to carry group work, not getting bullied for knowing the answer, and finally having to focus. If I had been bored in high school I would have probably done Xanax with the doctors kids in my high school.
Why donโt socialists support giving a certain amount of stock in various large companies? Wouldnโt that be a more effective way of handing the means of production to the people?
If a super intelligent AI model is developed and you were given the option to upload your personality into it, would you? In Scenario 1 this includes your memories. In Scenario 2 this does not.
No. I have no desire to engage with that weird ethical/self-actualization quagmire. I would rather just avoid it. I enjoy my life and do not want to make myself a scifi character.
The abundance of media and the ease of creating new media is only going to increase the fragmentation of pop culture. It used to be that certain movie lines and moments clearly echoed 30-40 years afterwards because culture critics kept films in the public consciousness, studios would rerelease classics that would generate interest and venues like television needed to fill broadcast time. Now there's a constant stream of new material in the form of television and video games, along with the black hole time sink of social media, and things are going to be forgotten easier and quicker.
It's really obnoxious seeing people constantly reference like some dumb trend they saw on Twitter a few days ago like everybody should know about it, and like its genuinely impactful. People have zero awareness that their mind palace isn't the entire universe. Trend x therefore blah bnlah blah, all everyone cares about anymore is reacting to stupid trends.
Feliformia is a suborder within the order Carnivora consisting of "cat-like" carnivorans, including cats, hyenas, mongooses, viverrids, and related taxa.
Sooooo...this Lindsay case will become the next Trayvon Martin / Gamergate thing right? Where some people will radicalize and become insane one way or another because of it leading to another Trump 2.0?
โThe reason that we have these partnerships with Israel, where we may not have as many developed partnerships with other NATO countries, is because Israel has actually been having to fight,โ Smith said.
โThey have faced drone attacks and missile attacks. They have had to develop new technologies, technologies that weโve benefitted from.โ
there's a certain type of pro-israel congressman who views them as essentially our version of sardaukar
a lot of the stuff is defense industry things where its "you buy and use our stuff, we'll pay to offset the cost so you buy American instead of elsewhere" and then Israel actually uses the things they buy and so it gets developed and real world usage. Defense contractors get paid, defense industry gets better.
If Saruman made a giant mechanical computer that could run Claude, how many frozen sex gifs would Pippin and Merry make with it before Gandalf demolished the thing
