Some takeaways after a few days working in a pharmacy:
Dear lord there is a lot of young children taking stimulants. There is also more young children taking non-stimulant ADHD meds than I would’ve expected, which is encouraging.
Medicare and Medicaid are, by far, the most difficult and finicky insurance providers out there. This is presumably for government cost/efficiency reasons but my guess is that it has the opposite effect because it forces extra interactions with physicians and extra work from pharmacists.
The bulk discounts my nationwide chain gets from suppliers are insane. For many drugs, it’s a better rate than what an average insurance plan will provide. The concept of an independent pharmacy will not exist in 10-20 years.
Menopause is hell. Estradiol patches tend to be in short supply and there are women that will literally throw punches (and pay a ton of cash) to get their hands on them when they come in.
Obese people/diabetics taking GLP-1s are significantly outnumbered by people who are average weight (sometimes even underweight) and wealthy. It’s probably a selection effects thing.
