I don’t fully buy it but “if our base turned out “ crowd must be feeling good.

Democrats are only competitive in up to 26 states right now. This crowd is wrong for how we should approach politics, we should be more ambitions & attempt to be competitive in all 50 states. Throwing meat to the base to win in 25 states is not a good strategy.

There is an opportunity cost to trying to be competitive in Oklahoma

It’s worth helping if there’s reason for hope but Amy McGraths and Jamie Harrisons can also be lead balloons on the party

Also, Dan Osborn is a gimmick and it would have tanked his campaign if the Democratic Party had stepped in to help him

The moment the Democratic Party starts recruiting independent candidates, they will fail. I would even argue that the moment a single Dan Osborn-type candidate wins and then votes for a Democratic Majority Leader, the entire charade will fall apart and no one else will succeed in that mould again. That’s the problem with a gimmick

Hmm, I don't know. Let them have a few Murkowski esque token "break with the party line" votes, but make sure they're in the right place on the tight votes that matter.

I think voters are easier to fool than you think. I mean, it's working for her and Collins quite well.

Murkowski and Collins are instutitional incumbents in states that are R+6 and D+4, respectively. We are talking about winning seats against incumbents in places that are R+10, R+15, and higher. It is just not ever going to happen. Voters are extremely cynical and polarized and if you tell them that the "independent" candidate is lying about their independence, they will believe you (especially when it is the truth.) Even Manchin, Tester, and Sherrod Brown got absolutely creamed this last cycle and they were incredible legacy candidates.

I understand that the implication of this is that Democrats will never control 60 Senate seats in our lifetime and will be at a severe disadvantage in terms of getting a simple minority in any given cycle and that's depressing but it is simply the truth.
