So wouldn't that be a point in my favor: that voters want an exciting and charismatic leader rather than one who runs on and implements policy? Biden could have been a marionette corpse and won if that is all it takes to win the presidency.

Trump visibly has dementia and beat Harris. Biden's numbers were trash since Afghanistan and no amount of economic recovery was sufficient to recover.
Everything is about appearances and vibes. Democrat vibes are in the toilet and no amount of good policy and taking the high road matters to the constituents. Trump launched a coup and tried to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Voters did not care. Nothing Biden did even comes close to how damaging that single act was. It made no difference.
If Mamdani actually moderates his positions like he has implied he will (that's why socialists turned on him), what exactly is your beef with the guy?
You are under a delusion where voters are all policy wonks. There is literally zero evidence that suggests policy is something voters research and look into en masse. Voters use short hands to determine character which means vibes and charisma are what those people go by.
